Let us pay our reverence to Saint Teresa

Saint Teresa was born was born in Skopje (now Republic of Macedonia) on 26.08.1910. She joined the Irish order of Loreto when 19 years old and was sent to India in the year 1929 where she taught at a school in Darjeeling. She moved to Kolkata to help the destitute in the year 1946 where she founded the Missionaries of Charity in 1950, an organization which serves people dying of HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis and runs dispensaries, mobile clinics, orphanages and schools etc.

She received the Ramon Magsaysay Peace Prize in the year 1962 and the Nobel Peace Prize in the year 1979. She was conferred with Bharat Ratna award by the Government of India in the year 1980.

She has been proclaimed a saint by Pope Francis in a ceremony at the Vatican today on 04.09.2016.
