Asteroid with power of 3 billion atom bombs barely missed Earth!

Thank God! We are still alive!

Earlier this month, an asteroid with the explosive power of not less than three billion atom bombs narrowly missed colliding with the Earth. This event is being compared to the one that led to the extinction of dinosaurs.

China's Purple Mountain Laboratory, which first discovered the asteroid, has reported that on 5 September, 2016, the asteroid was as close as 18.8 times the distance between the Earth and the Moon (44,91,320 miles). In space terminology, that is very very close!

The asteroid is named 2009ES. It is only one in a group of 1600 'minor bodies', and if it were to collide with the Earth, the energy released would be equal to three billion atom bombs.

It was indeed a close shave!
