Using Microsoft Document imaging to extract text from images
How often have we have received information in the form of an image, and wish that we could extract the text and use it in Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel?
Right under the hood of Microsoft Office, there is a tool that you can use to scan text from an image. Supported files are files with .TIF extension.
The process is simple. Follow these steps:
On the Programs Menu, Click Microsoft Office, point to Microsoft Office Tools. Now choose Microsoft Document Imaging. In Document Imaging, click Open on the File menu, and choose the image file you want the software to recognize text from. Locate the file you want to open Look for an icon which looks like an eye on the top most menu bar. By clicking this icon, you can perform optical character recognition (OCR) on the page, and the software will try to recognize the text from the image Once the text has been recognized, click the ‘Send Text to Word’ icon, which is just next to the ‘eye’ icon Voila! You have the text in a word document – which you can edit, copy and modify as you please.
