Why the cylone and it's effect are great on the east coast of India, and not on the west coast of India. We have experienced the cylonic effects in the states of Tamilnadu, Andhra pradesh ,Orissa and west Bengal only. We hardly heard about Cyclones and it's effect on the west coast States Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra and Gujarat. What could be the reason? Why the East coast is more vulnerable to cyclone?

What I understand that Bay of Bengal is bigger than Arabian sea and it is always vulnerable to heavy winds and high tides. Most of the cyclones happens due to low pressure and that covert into heavy cyclone and high tides. More over the Sun rises from the east and probably nature also has the say on this happening. Even when you fly a kite the wind would blow from the eastern side to the western side. So it is the natural phenomenon that we are not getting cyclone effects from the west side for the reasons I had explained above. But every year we are facing the problem of cyclone in coastal states.

Traditionally the Arabian Sea is much more quiet than the Bay of Bengal. Moreover, in every October-November, a low pressure belt is created tn the regionof Andaman Sea surrounded by high pressure zones. As a result, every year the phenomenon of Cyclone is witnessed in the Eastern coast of India. So, in a nutshell, the pattern of wind movement is responsible for Cyclone in the Eastern coast of the country.
