Why such a competition for getting little praise?

As soon as a girl turns 21 years old in an Indian middle class family, all the people around her begin to worry about finding her a suitable and nice groom. Everyone in the society around her want to become her godfather or god mother, and want to do a favor on her parents by finding a suitable groom. It is a sort of competition of doing favors, whether it's uncles or aunts from paternal side or maternal side; all just want to see her being a bride and get praise among all the relatives. People falling in these categories and in this competition for example-relatives and neighbors- are like moving marriage bureaus- they can find you a match on the spot you meet them.
What a bargain for appreciation and praise? Why people have this tendency of matchmaking?
And why all those relatives and neighbors have such a competition whenever they find an unmarried girl in their surroundings?

Good observation from the author. If a girl gets to the age of marriage, surely not only the family members but also the society and relatives would be after our parents to get the marriage done immediately with a right find of groom. Normally when we grace the functions and marriages of others, the first thing comes to every ones mind as to who is available for the marriage now. They are not coming there to witness the marriage, but seeing new people as guests, some alliance could be stroked out. That is the reason being so when a girl becomes eligible for the marriage, the relatives, the neighbors, the society and even those who are in bad terms with us also be interested to suggest alliance to have a patch up. By the way it is good for the girl to get married at right age as when the things are postponed then getting right alliance would be big problem hence those competition.
