Only trial has commenced: Cross-border firing has almost stopped!Only four have been deployed on trial basis. The cross-border firing has almost stopped! Yes, I am talking about indigenous weapon-locating radar SWATI. DRDO has handed over four indigenous weapon-locating radars and these four radars have been deployed on trial basis at the Indo-Pak border. These radars can accurately indicate the sources of firing-be it small arms, MMG, HMG, mortar, rocket-launcher or artillery. Along with each radar, an artillery gun has been deployed. If the source of firing is within the range of 50 kilometers, the gun can accurately destroy the weapon.
Indian Army has alreay sought another 30 SWATI radars. Although the two month trial has just started, cross-borer firing in those areas where the radars have been deployed has almost stopped. Defence Minister Mr. Manohar Parrikar has expressed satisfaction over the initial result.
We, the common people of India, earnestly hope that the trial is completed as quickly as possible and more and more SWATI weapon-locating radars are deployed in every area of the border. Deployment of SWATI would minimise the casualty of Indian civilians residing near the border area.
