The Captain saves the honour of the Prince

It has been a rout. In Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, the defeat is brutal. Manipur is also going that way (almost). The party is giving a semblance of fight in Goa, but that is more due to the emergence of AAP, who took a slice of the vote of the ruling party.

Only the Captain remains. Although all the observers knew that the ruling SAD was going to be out of power in Punjab, the Prince was trying his level best to bring 'defeat from the jaws of victory' for his party. His candidates selection was so dismal that the Captain was forced to threaten to quit the party.

Ultimately, the Captain saved the day. He saved the honour of the Prince. In Punjab, the latest position (while I am writing this) is as under:-

    (i) Congress leads: 74
    (ii) SAD+BJP lead: 18
    (iii) AAP leads: 20
    (iv) Others lead: 5
    Total seat: 117

Yes Partha what you observed is right. In Panjab the Congress is not recognized with Rahul Gandhi, but it is referred as Captain Congress and such was the popularity of Captian Amrinder Singh and great that he could single handedly took on mighty SAD and BJP combine and also sustain the penetration of AAP into the voters mind. Good leaders are always liked by the voters and now once again Congress party has got chance to rule the Panjab. But the party must learn the lessons for its defeat elsewhere in the other four elections and its time for Rahul to step down and give way for others.

Very good analysis Kansabanik, and also the interesting way you have depicted the captain and the prince.
Sometimes the good leaders show their achievements without the help from the political family connections and this is the case with the captain in Punjab.
The prince has neither helped in Punjab nor UP.

    Knowledge is power.

Let us remember the events of recent past. With his faulty selection of candidates, the Prince almost caused a revolt within his party in the state. He almost brought defeat from the jaws of victory. The Captain threatened to quit the party. Fortunately for the Prince, that didn't happen.
