Manipur: Ibobi Singh somehow survives amidst BJP onslaught

Let us now discuss the election of Manipur. As usual, this little state has been discussed least but the result has shown some remarkable features. Let us first see the result in the state.

    Year: 2017; Year: 2012
Total seats: 60; Total seats: 60
    Congress: 28; Congress: 42
    BJP: 21; BJP: 0
    NPP: 4; NPP: 0
Trinamool Congress: 1; Trinamool Congress: 7
    Others: 6; Others: 11

    1. From the above, it is clear that Congress still gets the maximum seats, but it no longer has absolute majority.
    2. BJP has made major inroads in the state. Particularly in the hilly districts, BJP has performed very well.
    3. In Thoubal, Irom Sharmila lost terribly. She could garner only 56 votes. The so-called liberals of Delhi whole-heartedly supported her because of her fast against AFSPA. Her terrible loss has proved that Manipuri people may not be dead against AFSPA.
    4. Trinamool Congress of Ms. Mamata Banerjee had been increasing its influence over the years in Manipur. This time, it has been decimated by BJP.
    5. In central areas (plainland) of Manipur, Congress led by the Chief Minister Ibobi Singh somehow retains its influence.

From your data it is clear that BJP did very well to corner 21 seats against nil last time. And Congress is at the brink of half way mark. And every one thought Irom would make some dent into the vote banks of Congress and unfortunately she lost and her party closed. But a word of appreciation should go to the present Chief Minister Ibobi Singh for maintaining some lead against BJP but in actual sense the party has lost 14 seats to BJP which should be the cause of worry to Congress. Nevertheless BJP which was not known to NE states, is giving some credence to Modi and that will improve further if some home work is done at BJP headquarters.

Mr. Mohan: RSS ideologue Mr. Ram Madhav remained in Manipur for last six months or so. The result has proved his effort. From the result it is also clear for those people who have some knowlege of demographies of N-E states, that BJP has inclusive support of three major communities of Manipur, i.e., Vaishnavite Manipuris, Kukis and Nagas.

Yes I just came across the breaking news that in Manipur Ram Madhav could able to break ice with like minded parties and Independents who are going to support the BJP so it will claim to form the government. Though Congress had the highest number of seats, no other parties or Independence coming to talking terms with that party and hence BJP is going ahead to meet the governor and stake claim to form the government. Once again merely getting seats is not enough , the Congress party has failed to initiate talks with the like minded parties and Independents and thus BJP took the lead.

In Manipur, the 15 year rule of Ibobi Singh may end this time.
