No enthusiasm over this amazing victory!

Even thrity years ago, football was the main sports of India after hockey and kabaddi. Thousands of spectators thronged the football grounds all over India. Football players were the real stars. But nowadays illogical cricket craze has overcome all sports. Otherwise, how else can we explain this fact? The Indian U-17 team have defeated the Italian U-17 team 2-0 in a friendly match n Italy. India struck once in both halves to seal the first win in the exposure tour of Europe that they have undertaken ahead of the U-17 World Cup in October, 2017. Abhijit Sarkar gave India the lead in the 31st minute. India then pushed for a second goal but Italy managed to keep them out and keep the deficit to one goal at half time. Rahul scored another goal in the 80th minute of the match. India finally won 2-0. throughout the match, India was in a dominant position.

We don't see any discussion about this historic victory. Could we ever imagine that Indian team can defeat Italy in Italy itself? But the newspapers only mentioned this at small corners of the newspapers.

Can we motivate our young players in this manner? After all, they are going to play U-17 Football world Cup in October of this year!

My two cents on this –

    • Thirty years ago cricket was the favourite sport
    • Football was popular predominantly in West Bengal, the rest of the nation remained a cricket enthusiast
    • Friendly matches have no place in record books – the scores or records set are soon wiped out of memory
    • Newspapers have a job of reporting news. Important news takes centre stage
    • Motivation is the job of the Sports Authority of India and the Football Federation. They are the ones who should encourage these youngsters
    • A major chunk of your post is copied verbatim –

    1. The Indian U-17 team have defeated the Italian U-17 team 2-0 in a friendly
    2. India struck once in both halves to seal
    3. first win in the exposure tour of Europe that they have undertaken ahead of the U-17 World Cup in October
    4. Abhijit Sarkar gave India the lead in the 31st minute. India then pushed for a second goal but Italy managed to keep them out and keep the deficit to one goal at half time

Cricket is very famous all over India. Many people follow the game all times. Foot ball is well known in some parts of the country. But many people won't follow that.
20-20 format of cricket has become the favorite of all.
Hence there is no much discussion about this friendly match.
Even cricket league matches played in other countries with participation of Indian players also goes many times unnoticed.

    always confident
