We have seen so many Prime Ministers in India. Its time to know their popularity too ! Yes after Independence India has seen many PM's who has cast their spell in their own way. But their popularity figure varies. Nehru was enjoying just 6 percent of popularity in those days. P V Narsimha Rao was not that famous and got only 3 percent popularity. Manmohan Singh could gather 7 percent and Rajiv Gandhi 10 percent. While Atal Bihari Vajpayee was famous with 17 percent, one must appreciate Indira Gandhi wielding the popularity of 24 percent then. And most popular PM of all time in India is Nareneder Modi with 31 percent popularity and raising. Discuss.

Mr. Mohan. It is good to see about the popularity of various Prime ministers of India. Where from you got these figures? can you please mention the source. The figures seems to be reflecting their true popularity. Olden days the government is not giving much emphasis on advertisement of their works. But nowadays if you see more advertisements in the newspapers about their achievements with photos of politicians. Many full page advertisements. Social media is also contributing more towards this. However Modi is doing a good job. Let us wish he will do good for long time.

It may not be surprising if we compare popularity with Sensex as they appear very similar in nature. Many of us including me have not born during the tenures of Nehru and Sastry while the generation today which is more familiar with Social media and might have participated in the voting may just heard about Indira Gandhi. Let us not jump into conclusions based on a survey as Jawaharlal Nehru, I am sure, would be the more popular person after Gandhi as long as we celebrate the Children's' day on 14th Nov., every year. Isn't it so?

The survey is done today about the past. How many people of today know Nehru or his times?
Nehru may not be popular or familiar with today' youth ho are born in the seventies and later. Nehru died earlier. There were no TV or Facebook and whatsapp in those days. The popularity as reflected in the election results only.

Today the youth know more about Suny Leone, Priyanka Chopra, Aamir Khar, Amitabh Bachan, Sachin, Kohli etc.
The acceptance and popularity may reflect in election results. Let the youth enrol for vote, vote actually and show their acceptance of the political leaders. Surveys and opinion polls need no be unbiased or doctored or planted.
Nehru was real popular in his days, political disagreement and differences apart.

One incident about Nehru want to share here. When he came to Tirumala for the first time in those days, when news man confronted him to say on the holy place, he said the mountain view was nice and not appreciated the grand Balaji temple. So not every one liked him even in those days.

Mr Mohan, I tried to avoid but could not. It is encouraging that you are active in many social sites, but I wonder whether it is nice to get inspired by the messages you get on such sites. Are you aware that the messages being passed through or are being shared in the social media may or may not be genuine?

ISC does not look for hot news and is as such not interested in such news that is spread. Let us keep ISC away from the likes of Facebook and Twitter as they are no authority and let me tell you that even Google is not an authority. So, before posting a content based on an inspiration from such social sites, please do check, clarify and confirm yourself that what you are posting is valid and believable.

Whether Pt Nehu had 6% votes or Modi has 31% votes is immaterial as long as it is not supported by facts. Hope you will be careful in future!

Nehru was a master of doublespeak and hypocrisy. Mohandas Gandhi and Nehru, along with Jinnah, caused a holocust during partition. Even after 1947, he caused irreparable harm for the newly independent nation. Sardar Patel, Pandit Rajendra Prasad and various other leaders from Congress didn't like him.

Very interesting data about popularity of various PMs.

Actually popularity is as per the expectation of people at that time and they delivered it. We can not compare it as these figures are belonging to different times.

Anyway it gives a general idea about their relative merits if not the absolute one.

The parameters on which the popularity is calculated may be different for different PMs and as it is not possible to work out the popularity on same parameters for time being the percentage mentioned can be taken as a rough guide to same.

Present PM's popularity must be on certain important parameters like honesty, seriousness of the purpose, lead by example philosophy and focus on overall developement. And if so a good percentage on these parameters is really a thing of pride for all of us.

    Knowledge is power.

Mr. Mohan, The popularity percentage what you have shown are people from different times. Like today mass media like TV, Facebook, Instagram, Twitters, Whaatsup are not there at that time. To know the popularity of different people of different times is not correct. My father used to tell during Independent movement, when people know the news that Mahatma Gandhi or Nehru coming close to their region or place people of all ages (old, young, children, women) used to walk kilometers of distance or travel by bullock carts to reach that place, wait for hours or even days to have a glimpse and hear such great personalities with great devotion and affection. But today all the meetings held by political leaders of all political parties including BJP are artificial, to create false impression over their popularity bringing people by buying with money. So this present popularity and the popularity of leaders of older generations is very much different.
