Please note the salient features of new Passport Rules

Very recently, Ministry of External Affairs have brought some major changes in the Passport Rules to make the process more simplified. The Members of ISC may kindly note the major changes in the Passport Rule mentioned below:-

    1. Earlier submission of birth certificate was compulsory for all applicants born on or after 26th January 1989. Now any one of the following documents containing the Date of Birth of the applicant will be sufficient:
    (a) Birth Certificate issued by the Registrar of births and deaths or the Municipal Corporation or any other approved authority
    (b) School leaving/Xth standard/Transfer certificate issued by the school last attended or by the recognized educational board
    (c) PAN card
    (d) AADHAR card or e-AADHAR
    (e) The copy of Service Book of Govt. servants or the PPO of retired Govt. servants, duly attested by the officer of the Department where the applicants worked.
    (f) Driving license
    (g) Election Photo Identity Card
    (h) Copy of policy documents issued by LIC/GIC.

    2. As a major change, the new passport rules have done away with the earlier provision of indicating names of both parents at the time of application. An applicant now only requires to submit the name of either one of the parents or the legal guardian.

    3. The total number of annexes in the application form has been reduced from 15 to 9. Some annexes have been done away with and some have been merged.

It is good to note that there are some changes in the passport rules. I remember the difficulties my both sons faced in getting a birth certificate from the village they born. In many villages, there are no proper records and they used to refuse to give a certificate. Now it will be easy for the people to produce SSC certificate which will be available with all. I am happy to note that many annexures were removed and the whole process is made simple.
    Good information
