Why is the intelligentsia up against Trump?

He has been elected on the basis of popular vote. He has been elected after a long campaign of at least six months. He explained his views, his programmes, his agenda to crores of American voters including women, Hispanics, Afro-Americans and other minority communities. He won against a formidable Republican opponent, who is herself the wife of a former two-time President. He has won despite virulent campaigning against him by the intelligentsia of not only his country, but also of the entire world.

Even then they are not convinced. They check his every more. They try to find fault in his every decision, every speech. They scrutinizes his wife's make-up, his daughter's lipstick. They are hell-bent to find fault.

Why are they so angry? Why do they try to criticise his every move? Why do they think they can influence common American voters by their mindless, one-sided criticism?

Good thread raised by the author. What the Americans feel that Donald Trump is more a businessman than a President. His haste speech, hate speech and uncontrolled speech during the elections sent shock waves among the Americans and there very existence would be under peril as the Trump policies envisages more enemy with many countries and that means there are every chance of Americans being hated or attacked in future on this. Even though he was elected with popular vote, he had plenty of time to bring his promises one after other. His action on ban on some Muslim countries drawn wide flak and his other actions are also seen as puppetry. Nevertheless he should not get deterred from the detractors and protesters and go ahead with his policies firmly and seen that poll promises are met. What I feel that Media is more hostile than the public there.

it is my observation that like in India the print and electronic media is giving importance to small issues and campaign against Donald. In India also many of the print and electronic media is against the Government. Same may be happening there also. Trump has come to power with public support and he may do better also. Don't we know how the Government reacts?

What I feel that If Trump wants to regain all his lost glory, he must take stringent action against the North Korea and in that case even his critics and detractors would support him in future endeavor.

A small point. Mr. Trump ran against a Democratic opponent; he ran as a Republican.
There are reasons why he's so adamantly opposed in the US. Although he won the election, he actually received 3 million less votes that Ms. Clinton. He's almost comically self-centered, intellectually shallow (he's smart, just not well read), often encourages divisiveness on social issues, and has absolutely no experience holding an elected office.
That is only half the story. He's also an upper class citizen who understands both the businessman and the average American. He's willing to challenge the entrenched political forces of both parties and oppose liberal societal positions that many US citizens find so frustrating.
