How much discrimination do we have to face?

In Railway station we face discrimination. In trains during long journey, we face discrimination and feel uneaseiness. Inside the aircraft, it is a strict 'no-no' for us. In airport, a small room at the farthest corner is reserved for us. In our working-places, it is a taboo.

Now this extremely discriminatory news. A Japanese marketing firm, Piala Inc., has introduced a new paid leave allowance in September this year after non-smokers complained that they were working more than their colleagues who smoked. The company's office is located on the 29th floor, and according to the non-smoking employees, an employee takes an extra 10-15 minutes to return after smoking. So, the company has chosen to offer non-smokers extra holidays instead of taking action(!) against the smokers.

So, extra holidays for non-smokers! So much discrimination against us (smokers)! Who will tell them that smoking helps us to improve our concentration level? A very big sigh!

For the smoker he may be floating to heaven with smoke, but for those who are near him has become passive smokers as they invariably inhale the smoke and thus got affected. Keeping this in mind the government and offices are keeping smokers at bay and even after so many restrictions I could still find smokers wont quit and they would have one puff at least inside the bathroom or wash room area. Government wants to discourage them to smoke. May be Indian government also implement good leave allowance for non smokers taking from this submission.

Alas! No one understands our pain, our deprivation! Who will give us justice?

Partha, this discrimination is not correct. So what you can do is join in non-smoker's group. You will give extra holiday, you need not go to a corner in outside places and there is no, "No No" to you anywhere. Here only you have the chance of shifting sides like in politics but not in other areas like caste, religion etc., where you have no chance to shifting the sides.
The problem with smoking is the health of the people standing near the smoker will also get spoiled. So nobody like them to be near them. Even government has banned smoking in public places. Of course, smokers never bother about this. They will smoke wherever they like. In my childhood, people used to smoke even in buses but these days that is stopped. I am thinking that the percentage of smokers is coming down and the percentage of drinkers is going up.

I think the key here is smoking and it's effect on people around the smoker. Yes well have all sorts of air pollution but smoking is unique wherein it is harmful to smoker and people around them and it can be easily controlled just by isolating the smoker.

Yes everybody has a right to pursue their habits. People become alcoholic but it's only the family that gets affected emotionally and financially because someone in an alcoholic he is not a risk to people around him. People are addicted to ingested and injected drugs, you can be in the same room, we cannot be harmed in inhaling the same air. So, smokers can smoke but its the physical passive smoking that they induce other around them that caused damage. This damage is physical and measurable and most importantly containable as it just requires willpower and understanding of one person. Imagine, one person who holds the key to change something, nothing great only not harming others.

Mr. Partha, the easiest way to get rid of this discrimination is to quit smoking. It might help you to improve your concentration level but on the other side, it is ruining your life as well as the lives of people around. You need to start thinking of a new solution to improve your concentration level rather than smoking and fighting for smokers rights.

The cigarette packets say 'smoking kills'. We have a small advertisement before a movie to show how smoking kills. Even after reading and watching all these, are you adamant that you won't change? Just for concentration are you ready to spoil your lungs and other organs? I don't see it to be a wise decision then.
