Medieval superstition: Journey from Pakistan to Kerala

An on-duty nurse was attacked during a vaccination drive in Kerala's Malappuram district. The gang of criminals brutally twisted the arm of the nurse named Shyamala B and other health workers were also brutally assaulted. The attackers came with knives, rods and other sharp-edged weapons and attacked the vaccination drive against measles and rubella, which was being conducted at a school in Edavoor on lastThursday. The criminals attacked the health workers and smashed Ms Shyamala's cellphone. The unfortunate nurse has been admitted in a hospital in Kuttipuram. The police have arrested only three criminals from a 'particular community'.

It is really very worrying that this type of medieval superstition that vaccination would reduce the fertility of women and virility of men, has entered from Pakistan to India and some people of the most educated state of the country are believing this trash.

It's a shame that people stoop to the level of attacking a healthcare nurse who is only following her orders to offer vaccination. If people do not like it, they can refuse and leave the place. What is the point of shamlessly attacking helpless staff. They should have the courage to attack the government that is offering vaccination, not the poor staff. Many a times religious fervor, false propaganda and a biased clouded mind, clouds the clarity of thinking and people resort to making mistakes after mistakes. When children sadly suffer with preventable illness, then people blame to government for helping them, when prevention is offered they refuse it. Any such events should be condemned and the people committing such atrocities should be legally dealt with quickly to prevent such events repeating and people starting to doubt the vaccination program itself. It's a shame that people stoop to the level of attacking a healthcare nurse who is only following her orders to offer vaccination. It is very bad that the nurse discharging her duties and while on duty was manhandled by a gang of criminals in Kerala. How is she responsible and by punishing her are they going to achieve. I fail to understand the point, Again thinking unscientifically and stopping the works which are good for health, How they can be acceptable? Here as an employee, she is performing the duty assigned to her. What is the fault in that. If somebody thinks it is not good to let them restrain from having the vaccine. Nobody is forcibly applying the vaccine. The people who are coming to have vaccine only are being given. No way it is acceptable and the government should take this incident strongly and see that the culprits are punished. Otherwise, a day will come government employees can't discharge their duties properly.

Never heard from any where or any one that vaccination shall lead to reduction in fertility. It all depends on genes of the couples who got married and vaccination is nothing to do with fertility or so. Kerala and Tamil Nadu are highly vulnerable to social media gags and thus any such kind of superstition mentioned would be shared such fast that the matter would be always trending in the minds of people of those states. Unfortunately the health worker has been attacked and the in Kerala the law and order has gone bad to worst. Nurses and health workers are also employees and they should be allowed to do their work.
