Need a fair probe in allegations of Cambridge Analytic

Recently we have seen that a London based company name Cambridge Analytica has campaigned trump elections and they have breached the data from the Facebook for allegedly promoting the trump elections by mining data from Facebook. Facebook has suspended the CEO of Cambridge Analytica and probe is going on it. We have heard allegations of Cambridge Analytica with BJP government for allegedly promoting the Bihar election. Will the BJP government try to do a fair probe into these allegations? Share your views on it.

Apart from your two allegations I also came across Congress party got the help by stealing crores of Facebook accounts to promote its leader. I blame the social media for leaking the personal information and contact numbers of their members. Time again the social media were insisting for our telephone numbers and even assured us that it would be kept secret. But now we are coming to know that our data has been sold for the price and we our contact numbers are used to promote their vote. Damn with the political parties in India or abroad. They do not have guts to seek votes on their performance but want to bribe the votes and hence too the data for future use.

I think we all should close our Facebook accounts and we should come out of that. Today I have seen a news in the newspaper that the Indian government has sent a warning to FaceBook. Now both BJP and Congress are pointing out each other saying that they have utilised this facebook for getting the personal data of various facebook numbers for winning in the elections. What is the truth we don't know? The best course is to discontinue using this site and should not keep our personal data there.
The government can make an enquiry into the role of this facebook in the election system, how they are promoting the election in India and who used this to their advantage. That will make everybody understand the facts about the issue.

Quitting only Facebook may not be a solution.

All social media like Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, all search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo, Ask.com, AOL.com etc, all Email service providers like Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail etc. which provide free services of any kind will have to be shunned in case we intend to become too touchy about our privacy.

These multinational companies are like East India Company, which provide services only in lieu of certain considerations for earning profit. They earn profit by selling data, in case not charging any fee directly from us for availing their services.

Anything that free, comes with an attached price that we pay at a later date. Any social media we currently use has the risk of data being stolen. Even while on ISC or any site, we are being profiled and based on our personal choices and the searches we have made, so ads keep showing up. These social media giants now have to realize that their apps have grown beyond imagination and in such huge numbers that it needs strict policing. When data can be sold and purchased for a price any interested party would take the chances. So, here the political parties have taken it. The very fact the the Mark Zuckerberg has apologized to the millions of Facebook users for a 'major breach of trust' means that there is lot more than it meets the eye.

So, yes we need a fair probe into the allegations, like the on that US started following the Trump elections. But can this happen at this crucial point of Indian politics? I think, this will settle down and then maybe after the 2019 elections, we would hear about a parliamentary committee.

The latest news on internet is "Delete facebook" account. Many Icons and celebrities across the globe are distancing themselves from the facebook and even deleting their accounts. Even some Bollywood actors who are active on facebook pages are deleting their account. This would be major setback for the social site. If even common man starts deleting , the facebook has to close the shop. So the on going deletion of accounts is the testimony and proof that the data of users were misused for ulterior gains. Therefore Facebook must come with clarification to reassure the existing account holders regarding the privacy of their details.

In England, the DCMS(digital, culture, media and sports) committee is hearing the controversies about Cambridge Analytica (CA) and Facebook. Christopher Wylie, a former employee of CA has told (testified before) the committee that CA worked extensively in India and he believed that one of its clients was Congress. Most of today's news sites and channel pages have reported this.

What is worrying for me is the report that Strategic Communications Laboratories and it's arm CA have had similar controversial roles in elections in many countries.

Prashant Kishor also helps various political parties in India in revolutionising election campaigns. Starting his career in Gujarat in the year 2012 in helping Narendra Modi in getting elected as a Chief Minister for third consecutive term in the Gujarat assembly elections, 2012, he helped the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) win an absolute majority in the 2014 Lok Sabha election. Later he worked for Nitish Kumar in 2015 Bihar assembly election and subsequently for the Indian National Congress to help run its campaign for the crucial Uttar Pradesh and Punjab assembly elections.

Is there any similarity in working of Prashant Kishore and Cambridge Analytica?
