The Year 2–3 December 1984.The Bhopal disaster, also referred to as the Bhopal gas tragedy, was a gas leak incident on the night of 02-03.12.1984 at the Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) pesticide plant in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. It was considered as of 2010 to be the world's worst industrial disaster.
Few years back I saw one documentary on the Discovery Channel. It just went into detailing about what actually happened that time & refering the same, how the responsilibility got shifted to a Supervisor. Adding, that I have been to a chemical company in Ankleshwar, Gujrat for quite some time & that's why I might be able to explain the in a layman language.
Stating that in a chemical manufacturing unit we have numerous pipes through which the chemicals are made to pass through. We can compare this with the veins & nerves inside our body. Now what the discovery channel briefed is that one of the pipes got jammed & then the liquid goes backward. This couldn't came into limelight as the supervisor wasn't there or was missing. This jam & opposite flow of the liquid result in constipation like of activity. As the cool morning breeze picked up pace, it carried the poisonous gas leaking from the Union Carbide factory to rest of the city and killing people - both awake and asleep. As per government's affidavit, about 3,000 people died of poisonous gas within a few hours of the incident.
