The Indian Reservation System? What It is?

Let's take one example here. Suppose 100 individuals have cleared the stages to the final round of selection & the total number of seats remains 20. This might be very painful for you that instead of achieving the maximum points you wouldn't be offered the job because of a very simple fact of "Reservation". You just didn't belonged to a certain caste or a community & so you denied of the job even considering your magnificent performance throughout.

This condition is remains in the various legislatures, to government jobs, and to enrollment in higher educational institutions as well. This reservation system had been started as an affirmative action program for protecting the oppressed castes of India from caste based discrimination. But now this has become the political means of getting votes. Each time & before election we can see the chaos everywhere that the political parties started making announcement of different schemes for social backward groups. But the bitter truth is that the situation remains the same for them.

Even after so many years reservations continued for Muslims along with the special packages being announced from time to time yet their leaders still crying for more facilities. The same is the case with the ST & SC population also.

After so long we haven't understood this that this needs to get eliminated in order for a proper growth & to make our country a better place to live.

Reservations is a facility created for a good cause to uplift the down trodden castes by our constitution. In the constitution it was mentioned that this facility will remain in force for 10 years and after that it can be extended basing on the social and economic conditions of the people of those down trodden castes. It is a good facility created for deserving people. But afterwards it was utilized by all political parties to increase their vote bank. So the facility is getting extended and the percentages are increasing. But the most unfortunate part is the real deserving cases in these castes also are not getting benefited. Many people in villages who are from the reserved castes don't know what are the benefits they are eligible. They will be leading low profile live s only. But people who are already availed this benefit and enjoying a good position in the society only will utilize this for their next generation people. I know the problems faced by OCs during 1980s and 1990s for getting a job. Thanks to the vision of PVNR in globalization and bringing IT companies to India. After that only chances in private organisations for OBCs increased.

Reservation policy in India is one of the most discussed topic on all forums across the board including ISC forum. Therefore, I would prefer to put forth certain points regarding the subject matter in a different manner as follows-

    1. It will not go at least for few or many decades as no political party worth its salt will dare to even talk about abolition of reservation policy for obvious reasons. It will prove like committing hara-kiri.

    2. There is no gain in lamenting about it. The general category candidates should work harder presuming that there are only 50% of the total seats.

    3. The reservation policy don't apply in private institutions, armed forces, few public sector institutions like Homi Bhabha National Institute and its ten constituents units, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research etc.

Let us encourage each other in sharing knowledge.
