Why not have motorized bicycles for city travel?

Not so long ago, there was this talk about motorized bi-cycles. There was even some talk that some company is seriously considering manufacturing it.

This could indeed reduce pollution due to excessive use of petroleum products. Am told that this is the cause of even cancer. This has not been effectively proved, though. Yet, we do need alternatives.

The better alternative would be to go in for motorized bi cycles. May be, a day will come when most of these batteries can be charged through solar power too. Is this in the realm of possibility?

Yes when motorized three wheeler is possible for the physically challenged, why not motorized by-cycles. By seeing the spate of new vehicles registration at every RTA office across the country, there is heavy demand for two, three and four wheeler and that added to the existing vehicles and therefore more pollution is guaranteed. Though vehicles are coming with Bharath Standard pollution complaint, the vehicles do emit the smoke when the engines are not properly maintained , hence the author suggestion may be considered to have the solar power cycles to commute for short distances.

Motorised cycles are a good solution for pollution control. But it may not be useful for long distance travel like bikes and scooters. The solution is electrical bikes. For these bikes, lithium-ion batteries are the requirement. A lot of talking and developmental activity is going on in this direction. Motorized cycles require some efforts from the man also in pulling the cycle whereas in electrical bikes once you get going as long as the battery gives energy it will run.
Batteries charging through solar energy may be difficult. But like petrol filling stations, we will get stations where you can exchange your battery with a charged battery like we exchange our empty gas cylinder with filled one by paying money. We may see this shortly at least in some important cities.

Motorised or electric cycles is a great idea for easing the traffic congestion. It will also be very beneficial for short distance commuters. It has an added advantage of doing exercises unknowingly.

I remember long back in some towns in North India, I had seen motorised cycles may be as a crude model. I do not know what is the reason that it did not pick up with the public and why no company has given it a serious thought for commercial mass production.

If you feel alright and just tweet this idea to the transport Minister or his office and bring it to his knowledge we may get some feed back or know the reasons why it can not be done or things like that.

Nowadays people are tweeting all such positive ideas to PMO or PM or some Minister and if the issue has a merit they are taking it seriously.

    Knowledge is power.

By the way, the meaning and the very feature of the bicycle is to peddle the distance and to have any additional features thus defeats the very advantage of peddling to reach the destination which is the great exercise.
