    What are the words enquire and inquire?

    The words enquire and inquire are both used to ask for information. However, the word, enquire is used to ask for something in general sense. For example; She enquired about the college fees.

    The word inquire is used while carrying out an investigation. Example; The police man inquired about the murder case.

    Enquire means "ask,"whereas inquire is for formal investigations.
    In the UK, the two words are used interchangeably, although inquire is still the more commonly used word for formal or official investigations.
    In the United States, inquire is the preferred spelling in all uses.
    Generally, we can use either enquire or inquire and it may not make a mistake. However, to be precise where the UK English is in force it is advisable to use the words as specified above.

    What I understood from the two words given by the author and the meaning for that is Enquire means to seek the clarification and Inquire means to investigate on a particular mission.
