only way is their own self control. the important reason for smoking is that, when they get much stressed with any thing, they go for smoking or drinking for relaxation, which makes them addict.
If they continue it, they cannot stop it. it will be very difficult to control. The best way is, they should find other activities which are not harm to them, for their relaxation. Eg: playing, watching movies, sleeping, sharing their stress to their dearest etc.....

Did anyone else see the irony in the recent ban on cigarette advertising (presumably on health grounds) to be replaced by alcohol? No one ever died or was attacked as a result of someone else smoking a cigarette - OK passive smoking and Roy Castle accepted. I'm thinking more of the people who have died or been assaulted as a result of someone else drinking? You only have to walk down any street in a major town or city on a Friday or Saturday night to see the impact alcohol has.

Shiva is right it is all in our in own minds. By self control and belief smoking can be stopped by anyone. I have promised myself that I will never smoke nor drink alcohol ever in my whole life. Even one step the government can take is that increasing taxes on cigarettes and alcohols rather than on essential commodities due to inflation. I think it is a very good suggestion. Another suggestion is that the government should order companies to print to statutory warning sign larger so that people will ponder on it before having it and might actually change their decision.

Smoking is a practice where a substance, most commonly tobacco, is burned and the smoke tasted or inhaled. This is primarily done as a form of recreational drug use, as combustion releases the active substances in drugs such as nicotine and makes them available for absorption through the lungs. It can also be done as a part of rituals, to induce trances and spiritual enlightenment. The most common method of smoking today is through cigarettes, either industrially manufactured or rolled with loose tobacco and a rolling paper. Other forms, though not as common, are pipes, cigars, hookahs and bongs.
Smoking is one of the most common forms of recreational drug use. Tobacco smoking is today by far the most popular form of smoking and is practiced by over one billion people in the majority of all human societies. Less common drugs for smoking include cannabis and opium. Most drugs that are smoked are considered to be addictive. Some of the substances are classified as hard narcotics, like heroin and crack cocaine, but the use of these is very limited.
Drinking is the act of consuming a liquid through the mouth. Water, for example, is required for many of life's physiological processes, and excess or decreased water intake is associated with health problems.
If they continue it, they cannot stop it. it will be very difficult to control. The best way is, they should find other activities which are not harm to them, for their relaxation. Eg: playing, watching movies, sleeping, sharing their stress to their dearest etc.....
