Decreasing ground water level and an increase in the manufacturing of packaged drinking water

Nowadays, a number of units started to produce packaged drinking water throughout the country. The number of units is increasing day by day and even few unscrupulous players are taking a chance because of the boom. In our country, there is a scarcity of potable water and these manufacturing plants are gaining momentum because providing clean drinking water to its citizens finds place at the bottom of the list of most of the municipalities. All the bottling plants of packaged drinking water extracts large amount of ground water thus decreasing the level which is severely affecting the drought prone areas. There are rules in place and many of the manufacturing units are flouting them which will cause the alarm bell to ring within a short period.

Water purifiers require periodical maintenance and due to the busy schedule of the residents in most of the cities, people fail to maintain the purifiers regularly and in turn depend on the bottled waters. It is very surprising that scant regard is paid to this issue of potable water supply to its citizens and no government has taken much initiative to make this supply a necessity. It seems the government is too scared to take up the issue of potable water supply to every house hold in a large scale and instead outsourcing it to these manufacturing units to keep the topic in the back-burner. Ultimately, we all will suffer in the long run.

Here I feel all the citizens should feel responsible and see that they do water consumption planning properly and make their own arrangements for drinking water instead of completely depending on the local governments. We all know that without water there is no life on the earth.
These days in Hyderabad the government is supplying water for drinking to all the people. The water source is either from Manjeera, Godavari or Krishna. The water is drinkable water and as far as my knowledge goes no treatment is required. But people waste a lot of water. They just leave water just like that on to the roads without having any concern for this natural resource.
So people should understand the importance of water. They should plan for water harvesting and water conservation. Then only any government can support the public. But without doing the needful from our side waiting for help from government may not be acceptable always.
