Self-help groups is the ideal way to empower all women

The emergence of self-help groups for women, with active support from the State Governments in the form of co-operative bank loans, is a tremendous success in South India. There are encouraging reports of women doing superb work. The self-help groups are not merely into catering services.

They are into a huge number of interesting ventures like basket making, handikrafts, and even pens made out of paper. That is, pens that are eco- frendly. This is reportedly done by at least a few self-help groups in and around Coimbatore city.

We should encourage them all the way. In fact, the formal Corporate organizations can also spend a little to train a huge number of even illiterate but trainable women in occupations that can fetch them a decent income. This will not only eliminate poverty, but also help the women to be financially independent.

On this Independence Day, let us get the ball moving, even more than what we have done thus far. It should become a pan-India phenomenon.

Nice thoughts and suggestions coming out of this post from the author. I do believe that the women are back bone of the home , society and the nation. When they are given the way to develop even on small way, they can show wonders with their creativity. In this regard I was overwhelmed to share a success story of women self help group in Peddapalli , Karimnagar District of Telangana have united themselves and started a food joint in the name of Bathukamma Hotel , which was super hit among the locals. The hotel was total managed by the women and the success was so quick and sure that they are now contemplating opening branches of the same in other districts too. So what I mean to say that women are sincere to their work and wont waste the money like that. So their creativity in saving money can be seen from home to the national level.

Self-help groups for women are getting a lot of attention these days. In Andhra Pradesh, the government is encouraging such groups by making them get loans and other financial help from various banks. The government is trying to have malls especially for the products by such groups and there are generating a lot of revenue. Even in small villages in Andhra Pradesh these groups are forming and taking up good business activities and making money. Making various types of pickles and selling them at a lower price than the market price is one such activity we see in villages. They are made very homely and they are very tasty also. Many people are going for these items these days. Similarly in a village candle making is another business carried out by a group. Like this, they are going to various activities and making their lives better. We should encourage this concept and see that women will be more empowered.

Self help group is really a very good concept and in some places they are doing excellent work and getting handsome earnings also.

As the housewives have sufficient time, they can definitely join such groups and constructively pass their time.

In today's hard times it is always good if the housewife can also do a part time job and add to the income of the family.

    Knowledge is power.

Now in this troubled crisis which the Kerala is facing , the self help groups are the best bet to reach the needy and the central and state governments must enlist their support.
