Need for internet access to improve a lot more everywhere

The Government run BSNL is on the verge of collapse. It has the worst outdated technologies and only in metros is the Net service reliable. In the smaller C class towns, it is a huge problem to get a good access to internet at least for two continuous hours. Even if it rains for two hours, the Net is gone and the landline that does not work even on normal days, goes out of service in a record ten minutes!!

In this jet age, when internet access is the need of the hour, the Government should open up the private sector even more. The costs should also be competitive. At the moment, we have just one or two players in the Net space. Let there be at least twenty fellows in every single area. The costs will also come down. The best option for the Government is to totally go in for disinvestment and sell the company to a good private sector operator, who would give the old timers a good golden handshake and recruit young professionals to do far better jobs.

Will the Government wake up at least now?

The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has come up with a novel idea. With a single connection, he is providing internet, phone and TV channels also. To that effect, they are laying Optical Fiber Cables. I don't know up to what extent this is completed. I heard that the system is started on a trial basis in some places in the State. The advent of very cheap data cards and the facility of a mobile hotspot increased the chances of having internet facility in many places.
In some remote areas the BSNL network works perfectly and in many rural areas even though there are no other service providers BSNL is providing these services. As mentioned by the author BSNL is not providing good services in many cities. In those areas, they should improve their services and see that they will be the major service providers in all the places. The motivation from the employees to the users is not there in BSNL. That is to be improved.

What i feel if the BSNL is not having towers or weak towers in c class towns and villages it is better to take the help of private cell phone operators and lease their cell towers to beam BSNL signals. As of now Reliance is having good cell tower presence across the country and BSNL can have tie up with Reliance to give seam less service, Lots of things has to be improved. Even in moving trains we must able to get full signal, that means cell towers must be erected along the railway lines, that way the villages in the vicinity of the tracks will also gets benefited with good signals.
