Even though many of us are aware of this, we dont use this particular ICE. Many of us are having mobile phones, and we have a large list of contacts stored in it. Even though we have allotted the different names to different groups like, family, friends, work.... have we ever thought of creating a group named ICE - In Case of Emergency.
I would like to share with you all, why it is necessary to have that group in our mobile phones. My friend have got her mother a mobile phone a slightly high end model. She have stored all the phone numbers that her mother contacts regularly in it for her mother's benefit. As her name and her father's name starts with S, it was well behind in the list. It was a very hot day and her mother had gone to the market, and on the way back with lots of vegetables and fruits, she have just had a sudden attack of BP and she fell down unconsious on the roadside. Luckily there were some real good people around and they helped her regain consious. But before that they had tried to contact some of the names in the mobile list, and those names happenned to be some service personnel's name. Then they left calling people. But luckily, my friend's father gave a call as he does daily and then they gave him the news. By that time almost two hours have crossed. You could wonder why my friend's mother didnot tell her husband's or my friend's name. She regained her consious, but she was so shocked to speak or move.
So dear friends, my humble request to all of you to have a list of ICE contacts stored in your mobile. If you are gifting a mobile to your parent's then make sure you create one such group.

Good idea anusma ,as you said storing personel contact under a separate category will come in handy during emergencies. It's also not possible to contact family members if the ones helping do not their names. It will better if they store the number's under the name husband, daughter etc.

Yes Anusma,
Most of the people enter just Home and put their numbers in. It will just be entered there as home and nothing else.
But if one records ICE1, ICE2, ICE3 etc. there, you can get the numbers easily.
That is the first person to call in thecase of emergency and the second person to call etc.
So please all of you record your loved ones numbers and addresses in the mobiles if you have the facility.
If you do not have the facility for adding the addresses just make it a point to put in their mobile numbers / home numbers/ office numbers.
Nowadays it is really needed. But I do really hope no one needs it.

Thanks Neyha and Latha. For posting your replies and understanding the truth behind. Infact, it was very heartening the otherday to see a man desperately calling all the numbers in the mobile of a person who was bleeding due to an accident. Then we all piped in to help and wrote down a few numbers and started calling the numbers and atlast found his local gaurdian's number. He is a student, staying in a hostel.
Again I stress and insist, pls pass this to all whom you know.

Hi Anusma,
Your idea is excellent. What happens in the next minute we do not know. Really in some cases people cannot know the individuals family when they met with accident or when they are out and some thing happens to them. It is always on safe side to have the phone numbers of ICE. Till now we have not got this idea. So, your idea is excellent. This shows the creativity. Each and every one should start doing so. We should tell our friends to do so. Good posting.

Hi Anusma, Thank You for sharing this valuable piece of information with us. It is very important and necessary to follow these steps, after all saving a few seconds might well save someone's life. Why not take 2 minutes everyone one day and then categorise our required numbers in the ICE group. It might well be helpful. I urge all the members of IndiaStudyChannel to follow this and I will inform all my friends as well. Who knows, it might come handy some day?

Yes Ankush, What you say is right. Particularly those who are riding bikes and those people who have health problems. The contact numbers of their doctors and other required numbers could also be put in the ICE. So according to the needs anyone can get at the numbers which are needed immediately. Yesterday I read in a paper that a boy had his mobile but did not have any one of his parents or guardian's numbers recorded. He had a lot of numbers but none of them where useful. The well wishers had to try out lots of numbers to get at a colleague. Only after that they could get some details of his parents. By the time the boy had passed away due to lack of care. Incidents like these should be avoided and could be avoided if they had put in their numbers at ICE section of the Mobile. You do not have to do anything separately. Just type ICE 1 and put in a name then ICE2 and then the second number etc Please all of you ask your friends and others to do that. So in an emergency, the emergency could be a heart attack also, your parents or doctor could be informed as soon as possible. You can add as many numbers as you want.

Thanks Mr. Subba Raju, For taking time to think about this. Infact I have a separate group name stored in my mobile, which have all the emergency numbers to be contacted. If I am right, most of the mobiles comes with a facility of grouping the contacts stored under different categories like family, friends, neighbours, etc. Why not have a category named ICE with all the emergency numbers stored.
Also what I have done is started all the family member's name with A(whatever their first letter be). Even to store my father's number I have stored it as AAAppa. This method I have found very handy. This is also another way to store ICE numbers.

In case of emergency (ICE), definitely this will be very helpful. As people who come for help during such grave circumstances may first check out the mobile phone of the person during an emergency and this will be of great help for the affected as well as the person offering help to act immediately and inform the right person and this may save many a cases in time, so it is advised to save the ICE numbers in your mobile phones and I think by this we are moving a step closer in spreading this awareness!
