Its true that we always forget our earth in this busy world. We all are busy in our life , earning money , fulfilling responsibilities etc.But we can take steps to preserve our earth at our own level. As in my case I too plant trees in my garden and water them regularly.I dispose my wastes properly and at times I prefer bicycle for the short distance than bike , this saves energy and money too.

So if every person take steps at their own level we can preserve our earth. So I request all of you to take atleast one step ,whatever they can do , to save our green earth.

Hi Sunil, thanks for taking this initiative to protect the earth. It's very soothing to my ears when I hear these words from people.
Here is the list of things I have done or am doing to save our mother nature -
1. Planting trees and plants in my garden and school.
2. Organising public awareness on nature conservation with the help of my school.
3. Saving electricity whenever I am not using it.
4. Try not to use any form of transportation and walk or cycle to the destination.
5. Disposing biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes separately.
6. Throwing wastes in the dustbins only and nowhere else.
7. I don't use perfumes at all as they cause damage to the ozone layer of the earth.
8. I have pledged that I will not smoke ever in my life thus reducing some air pollution from my side to the environment.
9. Started using new eco-friendly products and appliances at home.
10. Receive all my home's phone bills or any other kind of bills in e-mail and not paper thus saving a few trees. Did you know, every 3000 sheets of paper cost a tree. Please use paper wisely and in limited quantities.
11. Have a bio-gas plant at my ancestral home which was started by my idea.
12. Recycle disposable but useful products.

I will do these above 12 things in my whole life and save the environment. All the IndiaStudyChannel members should also do the same.

Thank You for starting this thread, Sunil. I appreciate your good work.

Regards,
Ankush Das

Plastics are synthetic substances produced by chemical reactions. Almost all plastics are made from petroleum, save a few experimental resins derived from corn and other organic substances.

Over 84 percent (by weight) of municipal solid waste could be reused, recycled or composted instead of being buried or burned. An exception is plastic, which comprises about 7 percent by weight or 20 percent by volume of municipal solid waste. Due to technical and financial limitations, less than ten percent of plastic is currently "recycled." Furthermore, "plastic recycling" only defers the plastic disposal problem, since most plastic items can only be manufactured from virgin plastic. Recycled polystyrene foam (also known by the brand name Styrofoam) can be used to build marine docks but not to make a new polystyrene foam cup. New plastic will have to be produced from non-renewable oil stocks to make those cups, and eventually all the plastic will have to be disposed of.

Recycling saves energy, reduces air and water pollution and limits mining and manufacturing waste. Every ton of recycled paper saves 17 trees, 7000 gallons of water and enough energy to heat the average home for six months.

With current technology we can recycle newspaper, office paper, cardboard, glass bottles, aluminum cans, scrap metals, large appliances, automobile tires and motor oil.

But, as stated before, plastic recycling is a dead-end street.

Remember, the first rule is to avoid disposability. The second rule is to reuse and recycle.

So BAN PLASTICS

Mother Nature is a common anthropomorphized representation of nature that focuses on the life-giving and nurturing features of nature by embodying it in the form of the mother. Images of women representing mother earth, and mother nature, are timeless. In prehistoric times, goddesses were worshipped for their association with fertility, fecundity, and agricultural bounty. Priestesses held dominion over aspects of Incan, Assyrian, Babylonian, Slavonic, Roman, Greek, Indian[disambiguation needed], and Iroquoian religions in the millennia prior to the inception of patriarchal religions.

Algonquin legend says that "beneath the clouds lives the Earth-Mother from whom is derived the Water of Life, who at her bosom feeds plants, animals and men" (Larousse 428). (8) She is falsely known as Nakomis, the Grandmother.

We all can do following,
1. Recycle your paper
2. Buy Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified wood products - look for the symbol of the tree with the tick on it.
3. Look for the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified mark when buying fish.
4. Use recycled paper.
5. Use rechargeable batteries.
6. Travel less by car and plane and more by foot, bicycle and public transport.
7. Use organic compost and mulch to improve soil health and reduce the need for pesticides and fertilizers.
8. Use energy-efficient household appliances you can afford and turn off appliances and light when you are not using them.
9. Switch to energy efficient light bulbs. They save electricity and money!
10. Look for products that have less packaging.
11. Save water by turning off the tap when brushing your teeth.
12. Switch to non-polluting green electricity from your electricity company. If they don't sell it, can you change power companies to one that does? Get your school, company or community to buy renewable energy, too.
13. Say "No" to bad souvenirs. Think twice before you buy any products made from any endangered species, including animal hides and body parts, tortoise-shell, ivory, or coral - they could be illegal.
14. Take your own bags to the shops to carry home your groceries and shopping.
15. Use the washing machine or dish washer only when you have a full load. Use washing powder suitable for low temperature washes and use economy programmes.
