Hi Sandy, U hv pur forth a veru thought provoking subject. Female foeticide is very common not only in northern states but is prevalent in southern states also . U wud have heard of femal infants being killed hours after birth puting some grains in their mouth so that the infant will hv suffocation and die or they wl give something called kallipal (this is poisonous and extracted from some traa).
I remember reading about such a incidents in news papers while the mother and grandmother of a girl baby tried to kill it and were caught red handed . Then the mother of the child admitted her that she tried to kill the child . The reason she was telling is that when the girl grow up how many hurdles she has to face to educate her, to give her in marriage. Even after the marriage there will be dowry harassment and there is no end for her sufferings .
Main reason behind the female foeticide is the dowry system prevailing in our society. The parents of the boys just demands things from the girls parents . Being the grooms parents they think it is their birth right to demand. If our youngsters take a pledge that they will never give or take dowery , we can control or bring down such crimes or aversion towards girl babies to a great extend. Girls are normally considered as a burden on the parents . This attitude should be changed .

First of all hats off to you for posting such a provocative and social topics. Yes I think it is the biggest crime. We have mother, sister wife all are so dear to us still people kill female child in the womb itself. I think they should be hanged.

thanks for the awareness you have created through ISC about one of the major cause ruining INDIA.in tne past as well in the present.
As a parent in the past come to know that it is a female foeticide,the only measure they take is to kill the baby and await the arrival of another boy child........
Do they think delivering babies is a work or somethiong easy.every human born out the mother is a gift of god to the mother who has almost given her life time pain nin a hour or so for its delivery.....
this was due to the greedy parents whose only aim was to earn money,as the female's growing up costs more they would rather prefer for a boy child than females........

but,now if the present trends of declining females continue we cann be sure that in the future there would lack in females for the boys children..
threr has been a better improvement in the techonological development to check what foeticide is there before the birth,called aminiocentestis,if it is a female child,straight goes for MTP,threr has been a hike in people undergoind MTPS in the world
BUT now as you can all see girls are no less than boys both in studies as well their performance in all activities.
They are now equal to boys in all scenerio and always try their best to put their entire strenght that boys sometimes lack,which is proved scietifically...........
