first gear is used to start the vehicle.if the vehcle starts n third gearor an othergear the veicle will jump and the passengers will invariably fall.

The reason why the vehicle move slow on first gear is that when the speed is low then torque will be high. torque is the rotational force acting on any object.
so at the first gear torque will be high on the wheels which is used to move the vehicle with its load.
that is why first gear is slower than other gears. In other gears, the torque will be low.
