Mr Shankar sreekumar,

Both the courses are related to business management but the thing that varies is the course structure. MBA is master of business administration and PGDM is post graduation diploma in management. PGDM offers basic course regarding the management whereas MBA gives specialization level training. There are some colleges which consider your CAT score for PGDM.

One such college is WLC college India, website : http://wlccollege.org. It offers traineeships along with studies right from the starting day of college. You can earn while your learn in this college, this is an essential thing for management field.

Hi Shankar,

Both MBA and PGDBM are the same thing. When MBA is pursued from a private college, it is called as PGDBM whereas when this degree is given by a university, it is termed as MBA.

Best Wishes,
Vivek

Hi,

There is no big difference between MBA and PGDM. The following are the differences.

MBA is a degree course, while PGDM is a diploma course.

MBA degree is provided by only those institutes that are affiliated to any university. PGDM courses are offered by private B-Schools that are not affiliated to any university.

Thank you,
eNIYAN

Dear All,

There is a difference between MBA and PGDM.

PGDM is termed as Post Graduate Diploma in Management and diplomas are professional, leads to careers with the industry and self employment oppurtunities.Autonomous colleges offers PGDM or PGDBM.

I would like to inform you that ,the most prestigious management institute in India are IIM’s. Selection for IIM’s is based on CAT score and IIM’s offer PDGM or PGDBM not an MBA. They offer Executive MBA programs.Even the same case with ISB.

So its not a bad option if you choose a college which offers PGDM if you are looking for a professional career and when you are looking for the academic side i.e., want to do Phd or teaching or research, you should go for an MBA.

There are colleges which accept CAT score even if they offer MBA or PGDM.It purely depends on the college eligibility criteria.

Thanks & Regards,

Rajesh Chowdary.

Hi all,
There is not a vast difference between MBA and PGDM.
MBA is offered only by Universities and Colleges affiliated to Universities

Institutes which are not affiliated to any University or colleges which have not registered the course with the University give PGDM degrees.

A two year full time PGDM Diploma and a two year full time MBA programme are equivalent.

A one year PGDM diploma cannot be considered equivalent to an MBA

Full time or Part time MBAs have more value over MBA by correspondence.

A two year PGDM through correspondence may not be equal to a three year MBA by correspondence.

MBA or equivalent PGDM has high value with work experience.

An MBA or PGDM from a premium institute or University has more value over an MBA or PGDM from an average institute.

Institutes deliberately avoid recognition from Universities so that they can have full control over course content and examinations. This allows them to teach the latest techniques and subjects to the students instead of waiting for approval from a University. So some premier institutes actually give only PGDM certificates. And that includes the IIMs.

Thanks.

Regards,
Ghulam

Hi Shankar,

MBA is master's in Business Administration. It is a Degree.
PGDM is post graduation diploma in management. It is diploma degree.

There is a lot of difference b/w MBA & PGDM. For joining MBA you need CAT Score. For PGDM You dont need CAT score.

Regards
Balaji.
