Rahul Gandhi and congress were focusing on UP through the women self help groups-Rajiv Gandhi Mahila Vikas Pariyojana (RGMVP). By winning 20 Lok sabha seats in the 2009 general elections , congress has dreaming a good result in the upcoming 2012 Assembly polls in the state.
Recent history taught the lesson that whenever the Dalits and Backward section favored a political party , then that party won the elections. Before 1980 majority of the loksabha seats were won by the Congress and later it is reduced to only two seats. Congress is learning from the past and no they are showing more interest in the welfare of the Dalits and poor sections. One of the major movement was launched at Rae Bareli and Amethi constituencies of Rahul Gandhi and then Sonia Gandhi
.
RGMVP aims for the empowerment of women in rural areas by organising them in Self Help Groups (SGH), it also creates awareness among women about their political rights .According to Congress party "The RGMVP first identifies the economically deprived families. Then it gets their women to share a platform in the village and hold meetings for the success of the SHG."
This RGMVP follows the rules of SHG . One women from one family gets the membership in the one SHG and the meetings and other activities make them aware of their rights and duties. This SHG will help the rural women to get Bank loans and loans within the groups. It also utilize the possibility of Micro finance. "The banks are at their doorstep to ensure benefits for the women under the micro-financing system," said a Congress leader. "Rahul personally monitors the progress of the project and spends time meeting the self-help groups during his visit to the Amethi."

Hi Jose sir,
Such a valid and nice topic to discuss. I love to discussion on politics for hours and hours. Here are my view on this topic.
I will throw some light from past happenings when Kashiram from BSP(Bahujan Samajwadi Party) was ruling and after that Mayawati also followed the same foot steps. This party completely focused on Dalits and backward class and they really reaped the benefits out of it by ruling Govt in UP.
Now Rahul Gandhi has tracked and explored the past of BSP and now history is repeating itself.
"Dalits are called the most backward society in country and if somebody is really working on welfare of such society then all the votes will definitely go to that party".
It might be a technique to get the vote bank of Dalits but if they are really getting benefit out of this SHG or any other welfare work then not only congress any party deserves the votes from Dalit.
Moreover if women's are being focused for coming forward in society then I must say it is really a appreciable thing. The recent loksabha result proved that Gandhi family will rule in politics for many years as Rahul took the charge very well.
From starting the focus was very clear for Rahul :
1. He gave more tickets to youth candidates as young blood wants change now and it worked so well.
2. He offered many cabinet posts to newbie in politics Dayanidhi Maran and A Raja are the best example for that as he is not from Congress.
3. Rahul formed the national youth congress which helped a lot in connecting to youth directly as 70% of total voters are youth in India.
Now if we will come to RGMVP thing, there is one opinion what I personally have i.e. a dalit women should be educated first, she should know about her basic rights, she should come out from old traditions.
All the above things should be implemented first. But my overall thoughts in this happening support Rahul. Whatever he is doing for Dalits, if things go well; it will definitely help congress out in next loksabha elections.
"Work of society welfare for country will definitely be fruitful for any party"

Well,all I can say is that Rahul is a very very savvy politician. He knows exactly how to get the votes! By setting up the RGMVP, he has reached out to thousands of women voters in an innovative way.
I just hope that this project is not just restricted to Amethi,which is his major votebank. Nor should it fizzle out after a few months. The project itself is a good idea & should be worked upon and expanded to financially empower economically poor families. The success of the project rests not just with Rahul Gandhi but with all the people involved. If, like other politically-driven projects, this too succumbs to corruption & bribery, then it will be a good project gone waste.
