Changes to the gift shop program

Posted Date: 29 Oct 2009      Posted By: Tony      Member Level: Platinum     Points: 1   Responses: 12

We recently introduced the Virtual Gift Shop. But we noticed that some members are abusing this program.

In order to make it meet our goals of creating this feature, we are making some changes to this program with immediate effect:

1. The maximum points a member can earn from received gifts is limited to 500 in 30 days. When member receive a gift, if his points earned from gifts in last 30 days is more than 500, he will still receive the gift, but no points will be earned. However, the sender will still lose the points equal to the value of the gift.

2. Editors CANNOT send unlimited free gifts any more. Each editor is given 250 gift credits by default. This gift credits is not included in the total points of the editor. When an editor sends a gift, points will be deducted from this gift credits. If the gift credits goes too low and there are not sufficient credits to send a gift, points will be deducted from the actual points of the editor.

If editors are using the free gift credits appropriately, then editors can request additional gifts credits and webmaster can give additional gift credits to editors.

Editors are expected to use the gift credits wisely to encourage eligible members and not to make their friends happy.

Senior editors are given 2500 free gift credits.

3. Members cannot send gifts to themselves any more. (This was a bug which is fixed now)

Hi Tony sir,

This points made by you are very good. And it is very useful to restrict all members and also editors by sending their gifts and using this opportunity of virtual gifts in a right manner.

It is a clear cut clarification from Tony Sir, and the timing of this thread is much warranted.

Yes,

I was also thinking about these scenarios and hoping for their implementation. This makes much control over the unwanted credit for members.

Thanks Tony

Every body loves to get gifts and this gifting feature of ISC is to send their appreciation to the other members or editors.

I am sure, the new initiative will be helpful for that particular purpose of appreciation. I hope every one will use it wisely.

Hi Tony,

I too had a view that such huge points credited gift will make problem in the points as I have experienced the sudden increase in points. Then my colleague informed me regarding this and now my opints came to the actual points. Hope everything is fine now.
Sending gifts online feature is on the view as New Virtual gifts in ISC.

Hello All

This changes in the gift shop programme will ensure that it will not be used as a havoc.

I have been a member to a site where gifts were given like rampant race.

This usage of points for the gifts will also inculcate a sense of management on expenditure among people over here.

Good start up Tony Sir, I hope it does not put much load on server bandwidth.

Thanks,Tony, for fixing the glitches. Now there is less likelihood of anybody misusing the system.

I hope that the virtual gifts will now be sent only to those who are worthy of it.

Good to see that members are send virtual gifts for the work they do and making the site one of the best. It is always an endeavor of the member to see that they put up quality content in the site and to draw traffic.

This is one of the good way to encourage members and editors should judiciously utilize this privilege and not in a havoc as discussed earlier.

Tony Your guidelines are very clear now and in fact i went through the forum before actually looking at the feature.

Thanks for the effort

Tony Sir,
This is a very good and effective changes in Gifiting Section. With this I would like to suggest something to add (If its possible)-

1) Members can only send Gifts if he/she is in Gold Membership Level ( or having more than 500-points) - This will help to not to go down the points in Negetive in any scenario.

2) Those Who have already mis-used it and make more points by sending self gifts, The points going to be deducted.

3) Only Gold and Higher Level Memebers can receive Gifts. (OR) Gift can be sent only to Buddy Friend of the members.

Andy,

I do not want to add much more restrictions to the program now unless we find that people are still mis using it. Let freshers also enjoy the features for now.

Hello Tony sir,

A very good step taken by you. I could see the misuse of gifts by some of the editors. It is good that you have put some restriction on awarding the virtual gifts by the editors, otherwise it would have served as an easy way of earning points. Thank you.
