There was a time everybody thinks about software jobs, BPO's, KPO's till recession, but now time has been changed.
After the implementation of 6th Pay Commission, the Central Government Employees are highly paid employees now, the hike is estimated around 40% of jump, prior to this commission, even an average group 'D' employees may get more than 10 ten thousand now.
I met an group 'D' employee who has put up around 36 years of service in an central government office and he is due to retire next year, one may not believe his gross salary now is 22 thousand, one can imagine easily, it is a stupendous amount for that qualification, where as to get the same salary in private sectors, what qualification is required.
More over from security point of view government jobs and public sector jobs are always preferable than private sectors, further competition in government and public sector jobs is much less compared to private sectors.

Hello Mohan, This is a great topic to discuss.Actually before the evolution(means establishment across) of IT companies in India the final move in a person's career will be to a get a job in government sector. But once after the IT sector started giving salaries in bulk the eye of people moved a bit out of government sector as the starting salary what they get in MNC can be achieved in government sector after several year of service. But after the global economic melt down and revision of pay scale after the sixth pay commission, government jobs have again become the craze. What now I personally feel is as per the present situation its better to opt/apply for government jobs, so I place my poll in the government sector.

Hello, I have seen the post of RKD, I have a few objections in it . I am sorry RKD its not to hurt you and I am just expressing my view on what you have said.Kindly bare please! You have mentioned they are getting salary and taking leaves and benefits, of course they get but I just want to say it comes as per the law as person should work only 8 hours per day and any extra work should be compensated and should be given off atleast a day in a week. How many private sectors strictly follow it. Secondly you have mentioned the progress is slow, yes its true the instead of staying progress I would like to say completion of work is slow. But the quality of output is good , how many private sectors have a good quality assurance? Coming to corruption yes there is a lot of corruption in government sector, do you say private sector doesnt have those scam's. If so what about Sathyam Computers and even recommendations are also there in private companies.

I totally agree with Ganesh Babu, if one finds just one or two persons in a place with corruption, we cannot blame the entire system, more over in government offices too their are skilled talents available and further those days were gone as the mere employment with a minimum qualification, will not provided, it is on the basis of qualification and skill one have in certain central government departments, like NIC, ISRO etc.
When one comes to the point of scandals and scams, the member has quoted an best example, even in private sectors one can come across such negative aspects, just being we found one such sector, we cannot say the entire system is like that.

Under the present set up there is social security in Government jobs, irrespective of the size of the salary packet. Once you retire from the service, still you get a some what decent pension (or family pension), which is not there in the private sector. I am giving more stress to this point, because, by the time one retires from service, finding out another income source will be difficult, unless planned sufficiently early.
True that the IT sector used to pay highly, and there is a down ward trend in that. This phenomenon may change again.Because, present world cannot progress without the support of IT sector.
