Hi Mohan,

You are perfectly right in stating that many of the intelligent and well educated people do not show any interest in voting the leaders. It is hard to digest the fact that the educateds are like this. I think each one of us have to think about it. People give lame answers like no time, not interested to vote etc. All these should be avoided. Voting is a constitutional right which every individual has and it is his right. So I think atleast people can realise that it is right to vote and try to do in the near future.

Best regards,
Mala.

Hi Mohan,
The turn out in recent polls are showing that people now-a-days are aware of the present scenario. The main reason for people not turning for voting is, they may work in a different location outside their native where they may have their elction card, so they may not get time or leave to come and vote.

You cannot simply classify and state that the intelligentia do not participate in the election. There are a group of people, which will include some intelligentia also, who do not show any interst in the political activities of the country. There are several reasons for this. Selfishness or self centred approach is one among them. They feel that who ever come to power, they are not affected. They will see their things are done, by hooks or crooks.

Another reason very often heard is that all the political parties are corrupt, there is no choice between them. So it is a waste of time and money (some times) to go for voting.

The real intelligentia, very often, forget about this voting, etc. They may not spend time reading news papers or seeing TV news. Some of them believe that they are above all these.

Also I may be permitted to add that there are regional differences in this attitude. In Kerala, for example, the percentage of polling is very high, that means most of them, except those who are out of station, go for voting.

This is mainly due to the depression that anyway the winning politician will never do favour for them.

This should be changed and every person moreover every citizen of India has to bear the responsibility and come forward to vote.

Casting vote itself a great chance as many people cannot get due to corruption, fake vote and other chances.

If chances are there please go and caste your vote and show your power in electing a person to our valuable nation.

Thanks,
Donald.

Whom do you call the Intellegentia of the society? If we look at the section of the society which keeps away from elections, most of them are in white collar jobs of middle level management or semi-technical profession - in public or govt sector who draw hefty salaries entirely out of proportion with their abilities. This higher middle class of the society stays away from voting and instead prefers the comfort of holiday spots. The reason is obvious - The outcome of the elections simply doesn't matter from them. The true intellectuals for that matter, are eally concerned about the nation's progress and policies and play important role in shaping the public opinion. It is the big chunk of middle class which has been always betraying the democracy.

In the present scenario one wishes to vote, then he may have to select best among the worst, all may not accept that, and moreover everybody thinks that a single person cannot change the system, which is so corrupt.

Particularly the intelligence lot will think and take issues in a different way, they think one or two person cannot change a man or the system, hence though government declares a holiday on voting days, they prefer to spend in their own way, rather than coming to vote.

But one statement from our member Sankaran Sir, has to be accepted, these intelligent lot will always takes the things in a different way as others has to notify them for their deeds.

Best among the worst, that's good observation you made Ravishankara, why worst people at all stand in the poll? Cant we reject them outright, ponder over.

You and me cannot change the system individually, it should be done collectively, how to pool them up those who are living with different philosophies, you have to convince them, it is not one or two day's matter, so few think their time is more precious than convincing such people. This could be the reason, why most of the intellect will not go to vote, and you may find more percentage of votes always in rural areas.

The percentage of voting is always high in rural areas on two grounds, firstly they don't worry too much about a party just they think about the person who is contesting, secondly if they value party more, then they don't worry too much about the candidate.

By this way, either the wrong persons from a right party or a right person from a wrong party will win, this is the present scenario.

Thanks, Mr Ravishankara, thanks for your response, yes the system to be changed collectively, lets start it from today.

Hello Mohan, kindly avoid giving too many dots between dots, I can't understand why you put so many dots, it will not look like a sentence, kindly avoid giving dots in your future threads and responses and kindly take care while posting from next time.
