Is helping beggars is a good habbit?

Posted Date: 07 Nov 2009      Posted By: R Sharma      Member Level: Silver     Points: 1   Responses: 5

We are witnessing nowadays in India that lot of beggars are moving and asking helps from us but mostly beggars are habitual to get it as per them it's their business. Some may be due to their problem like earthquake victim etc but we can not recognise them. I am unable to think that whether helping them is a good habit or we should avoid these beggars. Dear R Sharma,

Let me tell you what I do. As whenever I feels that this is really needy or something comes up in my mind and tell me that yes you really need to help him/her than I helps them. I think everybody does this like me. So it is always upon us as we avoids majorly but also helps frequently.

Thanks

I don't think so, we come across some handicap beggars, those who are not in a stage to do any work and for their livelihood they want to earn, but for beggars the government has taken lot of measures to rehabilitate them, but their they have to do some work, to avoid that they again come back to their old profession, moreover begging sometimes is more profitable for them as they addicted to too many bad habits.

Helping them for their rehabilitation is not a mistake, but we help them by giving alms, so that they will make this a habit of earning easy money, in my view helping through by giving money should be avoided, by that we are not helping them, but making them further lazy.

I agree what you share Mr Ravishankara, but as far as Hyderabad is concerned scooterists are the worst target of beggars in signal cross roads, they just pounce on you by touching your cheecks, that's embarrassing.

BEGGARS

Begging has become profession. Some DADA makes poor people to beg. May be by cutting leg or by making good kid in disable. Any money given to such a person goes to DADA and that DADA becomes more powerful.

Question is whether you want to make that DADA more powerful and rich, due to which he can expand his profession /business.

1. If you do not wish that do not give to beggar. Since their businesses are flourishing, many are giving help to beggar.

2. Do you like beggars to spread here and there? Even genuine ones? If roads are to be full of beggars then give them.

3. Outside of the temples the beggars are many. They sit their to give punya / blessings to the devotees. The whole area surrounding the temple is crowded with beggars. If you think it is good to preserve them there give them money.

4. Many foreigners visit our country / sights / even temples. Many beggars are surrounded them. The Sean is oweful. If you like that give them money.

5. Understand soon that it is not helping poor at all if you give them money. It is crime.

6. If you really wish to help poor there are better ways. Go to NGOs who are helping poor and needy. Give thumping money there. They really need that. It will be a great social job.

7. By any means STOP giving to beggars.

Hi Sharma,
Thanks for the forum. Most of the time me too think of helping beggars but normally i wont spend for them. I have a confusion often arise in my mind because of seeing their poorness whenever i m seeing them at the road side. Today i am clear because of the response that you received here. I will never help the Beggars by giving money. If really i wish to help them i will provide them some food. More than that i think it is better to educate a orphen child than helping the beggars.
