what do you think semester wise course

what do you think semester wise course for primary and high school students whether is it good for students to perform well in exams or it helps them to under stand the subject in detail ?

When we were studying in school we have get prepared for the final exam one in a year only, now in some states they have started semester wise course , i think this lesson the burden to students. what do you think discuss here.
