Alcoholism and drug addiction is a major social problem today not only in India but the world over. India is 150th among 184 countries in WHO's Global Satatus Report on Alcolhol 2004. Infact, it is not only a social problem but also economic, political, psychological and medical problem as it has major effectson almost all aspects of human life. Many thousand crores are wasted each year and it leads to personal, family and social disorganization on a large scale.

So, this problem is increasing day by day in our Indian Society. I think it is going to be our tradition for coming years. Now let us discuss that how can this addiction be eliminated from India which is a great Scar on the heart of young India.

dear friend,
you are very right. I appreciate your concern towards our society. indeed, this is a burning problem in front of Indian society. Well, to talk on remedies for eradication of drug and alcohol addiction, we must first think on what we can do on our side.
Ithink, social awareness and making people understand the evil effects of addictions is the only way to eradicate these evils from our society. according to a scientific research, no addict can be retrieved back unless he wishes to do so. hence, we must first make the addict , mentally prepared to leave his addiction.lets try to do so and create a revolution!

Hi Kimaya,
Thanks for sharing your ideas with me. I think to eradicate this problem our young community would have to make some efforts to stop this evil which is biting our society badly. First of all, we would have to think about us, about our family, about our society, about our contry as well. I want to make aware our youths who fell in bad company without using there mind. Suppose, one goes to in a bad company. The bad company will might ask him to adop such kind of addictions, even that time the bad company may pay for this. But when he becomes the habtual of such kind of drugs, nobody comes to pay for this. So, he tries to sell his property as well. So, I request to all my dear friends not to be in such addictions. Such kind of addictions can ruin the future of our India. So If you don't want to think about your helth, then think about your family as well as your reputed society.

I thank you and appericiate you to be in such a warm discussion. Kindly suggest some beatiful points which can be imlemented to prevent such kind of addictions in our society.

Hi Sushil,

Your concerns are true. As much as alcoholism, tobacco consumption is also on the rise in India. We consume tobacco in many forms and it is the deadliest killer in India, than AIDS and TB. Alcohol consumption can be curbed only if we have more rehabilitation centres which help people curb the habit. Unlike in the developed countries we do not have the resources to rehab all alcoholics and moreover, the poor people cannot pay for the treatment. The government has to take a serious thought to the human resource of the country and try to protect it. What was considered as a bane is now considered a boon since India has capitalised on its large human resource. But if it starts to lose it to alcoholism it will not be far when we shall be spending more than what we earn
