I would prefer having a laptop instead of having a desktop installed in my home.
Advantages of having Laptop:
You can carry it along, wherever you go, as it is portable.
You have generally all the features and accessories pre-installed in it like, webcam, speakers, mouse and CPU.
Laptops are generally equipped with latest software and are also easier to boot and shut down.
While the reverse of the above mentioned points are generally the disadvantages of Desktop system.

Advantages of Desktop on day to day life:
1. Easily accessible for all the family members.
2. A permanent place for you to sit and work.
3. Dont have to worry about the 'battery' running out of charge
Disadvantages:
1. NOT PORTABLE
Advantages of a Laptop:
1. A portable Computer.
2. Access emails and other information on the go.
3. Play games when you want to :)
4. Watch movies and listen to songs at your ease.
5. Doesnot take much of a space.
Disadvantages:
1. Radiation is a very big issue.
2. Heating up while on the laptop could do some irreversible damage to the human body.
3. People tend to spend more time on this small 'information box'; Could cut you lose from social life
Considering the needs of a normal man in this current day, how much every the disadvantages may be, I would still go with a laptop as it satisfies my work related requirements!

Both Laptop and Personal Computer are useful for people depending upon their activities and necessities. A working professional needs a Laptop for his/her official and business works as one can carry Laptop to anywhere freely. Whereas one can't carry a PC as it loads heavy. A person who spends majority of the time at home will be comfortable with PC. Laptop and Commuters both are becoming quite essential for all at present but one have to choose the electronic device according with his/her choice and convenience.
There are some things that money just cannot buy, like manners, morals and intelligence.

Laptops are easy to carry anywhere and even now a days they have more stylish look but I really vote for desktop because even if you will use them roughly there are less chances of damage. But still I can say that it is totally depends on person to person what he wants to use.

Laptops are much better than personal computers as per my experience and usage. Moreover, PCs require far more electric energy than laptops which could be environment friendly in some ways by helping us reduce consumption of power which could be used in other essential things. There is not a thing that and PC can do and a laptop cannot. And the same cannot be said for personal computers. The only drawback of owning a laptop is that it is costlier than a PC.

Personal computers and laptops have a major advantage and disadvantages between. Coming to the PC's it is arranged and placed in a room which cannot be portable but if you want to shift it to some other place you will have to unplug all the wires and bring each and every component to the place you like. It also consumes more electricity because it contains monitor,cpu,ups etc., they consume a lot of electricity and if there is no ups the PC gets off suddenly if there is no power at home.
In laptop you can just charge the laptop for some 3-4 hours and you can use them until the battery charge is present. No problem of switch off since it is not connected to the electricity port and it does not needs any connection. It is portable and you can carry them using the shoulder bags provided to you and it is weight less too.

Well I think Laptops are more beneficial now a days as this also provides a way for the portability, which will always be a issue fopr the one who is more into traveling. So think Laptops are better, and now they are surely ahead, but when it comes to handy and robustness, desktops are quite goo, as we have to care less for the keys, board, screen etc. They are good for the rough usage and long use.

Laptops are really helpful now a days because we can handle it very easily and we can carry it from one place to another. Desktops has gone out of fashion and it is very difficult to transfer from one place to another. Now tablets has emerged and it will replace the laptops section and in the coming years we can expect tiny computers which can place it in our pocket with good comfort.

I would like to prefer laptap over desktop. There are lot of advantage and also disadvantage but advantage attract much. First of all when we talk about laptop first thing which come to our mind is its size, weight and portablity. Everybody want laptop because it took very less space. We can use it even sitting on our bed. We can carry it anywhere very much easily. It provide battery backup so whdn the power is off we still get time to finish our work. There are many disadvantages also laptop are much cheaper then deshtop its' maintain cost is very much high, it warrenty period is less (mostly 1 year) as compare to desktop (mostly 3 years) in laptop doesn't allow most of the external hardware, like motherboard, graphic card etc and laptop is much sensative then desktop.
But still laptop are more popular.

In my personal view, I will go with laptop. As the technology is improving no one will try to use the old trends. like wise laptop is best in many ways like light weight , portable, with good configuration, etc. The thing is the portablity which makes the advantage and even if the user travels from one country to other, he/she can use the laptop and can complete the work.
On the other hand if you say laptop or the ipad which is the best, then usually the voting goes to ipad. So the old things will always be replaced by the new things. But each of the items has its own advantages and its disadvantages like we can add a san disck to a computer system to increase its memory sizre but the portable things like laptop cannot be added san disk and all....

I personally own a laptop but this was because of the most important benefit of a laptop - Portability.
I spend my weekends at home and rest in college hostel. So whenever I come home I just have to pack the laptop and carry it via a back pack and its that simple.
College students can't use a desktop simply because they are not stable, one day we are here and the other we have to go somewhere else.
So laptops are much better in that respect.
At homes also, there is no need to sit by the table in winters or stay in one room only, laptops provide us access to them anywhere.
But still desktops has its advantages that most of you have forgotten to mention above.
You can't buy a laptop with a 17" screen; those of us who are fond of watching movies know that larger the screen better is the joy in watching a movie.
Another important aspect is the attachment of certain external devices with a Desktop that is not possible with a laptop. For instance you can simply attach a new graphics card to your desktop easily but with a laptop in hand that is not possible.
TV tuner cards enable us to watch TV directly from our desktops but with a laptop internet streaming is the only option if you are a fan of watching TV.
Gaming when done on a 17" screen is really amazing while our laptops drain their batteries whenever we play a heavy game like Call of Duty.
In short both laptops as well as desktops have their own pros and cons, it depends upon your taste what you like and what you desire from your computer.

I was thinking of purchasing a laptop since last two three years. But somehow I backtrack every time. One reason is the prices have not come down as I expected.Second, I do not need to travel much. But seeing some of the opinions here I renew my interest to buy a laptop.
Any suggestion of a optimum one in terms of utility and price?

I prefer to use laptop because, it is light and portable. You can place it any where and work. But, when it is seen from the children's point of view then I think desktop would be better option for them. The reason is that when the child uses laptop, they lie down/ sit in wrong posture which affects their body and eye. Working on desktop while sitting on the chair is beneficial for children.

Portability of laptops makes to select laptop to most of the people. A;so it makes one little more proud while using laptop. Laptop looks more professional. It is mostly used by the professionals and businessman. But today laptop is used by every class of people.
But points regarding against laptop are, for me I feel more comfortable to use computer rather than the laptop. I Find it to work more faster to work on the computer.

I preferred to have a lap top rather than a desk top which I have bought recently. As it is light in weight it is portable and it can be taken any where without much of efforts compared to the desk top. Work is done with ease at any place without going to the cyber cafe or any other who own a computer.

I prefer a desktop to a laptop as I like gaming very much and only desktops could give me the satisfaction in that case. In my opinion it's better to use desktops for watching movies also.
But still laptops are useful while I am on the move and also when I have power cuts, laptops become useful to work on.

According to me both are important in today's lifestyle. Today there are several laptops in the market which are equal to or better than that of the Desktop PC.
So in my view for a student a laptop will be more beneficial but at times the cost is too much and the students opt for the desktop PC as their college expenses peep up every now and then. So what matter's is that a student needs a PC or laptop to be portable during their college time.
On the other hand there is no any competition between Laptop at home and PC at home. So at home the desktop PC has a higher advantage than that of laptop. Hence, if a student is in need to purchase a laptop or desktop PC, then I suggest that students should purchase a Laptop at any cost because it will help then during college days. Otherwise they can choose desktop PC if laptop prices are too much.

Laptop and Desktop Computer, if one is portable then the other looks a way better on our computer table. If we talk about the Desktop computer then one advantage is as I have mentioned above. It looks nice when there we can see a fine and sleek-cum-stylish model of CPU and big LCD/TFT screen, a stylish and multi-functional or multimedia keyboard with a cute 'mousy' at a side and when we add a set of 2.1/5.1 or 7.1 sound system, the show of our computer desk goes to more heights. It really gives a fine feel when our relatives or friend has came to our house, and we are working on that system. Personally, I feel good when I see my computer set at my room.
But if we talk about a Laptop, then the things and advantages gets changed. Obviously, it is portable and easy to carry. That is a good point if you like to travel a lot from here and there. Even on your bed, while going to sleep, you can lay at a comfortable position, and can use it, which one can't do with a desktop computer. The other thing is its battery lasts for longer time though the UPS connected to the Desktop Computer starts giving low performance after a certain time and one cannot work for time more than 15 or 40 minutes. My Laptop gives me a back-up of almost 3.15 hours while simply working and approximately 1.30-2.0 hours while playing games alongwith with some music.
Also, if we think about energy consumption, then if I am not wrong then a Desktop Computer consumes more energy than a Laptop. Just a recharge of 1 to 2 hours makes it able to run for next 3 hours. But if we talk about using a Computer for 5 hours then surely we will see a major difference between energy consumption of these two machines.
If we go into deeper inspection, then being a 64 bit device, a desktop computer is better in several ways than a laptop. And also it is not possible to change each and every hardware of our laptop. One is a graphic card, but in a desktop computer, it becomes quite easy to fix and install. But in a laptop, we cannot do it with on our own.
Both have their own advantages and disadvantages over each-other, and one can buy one or two as per his/her situation/budget/need(gaming,business or media purposes) and etc.

there is huge difference between computer and laptop
laptop is potable and easy to use at your journey. you can play game of high definition graphics game but something wrong with laptop is that you can't use continue for more then 12 hour it will create heating problem. laptop cost is also high with respect to computer. computer can be used more then 12 hour continue without any problem you also configure your computer as your need without any problem ..........

If you are a student staying at home I will prefer a personal computer. If though you are desperate about laptop take a HP notebook. It is best for students.
Otherwise if you are a professional use a laptop. You can use it anywhere. The brand which I suggest is lenovo for professional purposes.

Discussing laptop and desktop is like discussing the past and future. The idea is to move with time. It is the breakthrough in technology which makes a gadget a big in size of desktop today in size of laptop and palmtop etc. Its only the beginning of a very fascinating future unfolding in terms of these gadgets. Its going to finally become so small that the whole purpose of desktop and laptop will be digested into human system itself.
Therefore, moving with time is the conclusion one comes to while comparing desktop and laptop.

It is like growing a plant in a field and growing a plant in an earthern pot in our terrace. Computer can not be carried easily like the laptop. Both meets the same purpose of communication. I think Laptop is better for persons who are always on the move. Computer is better for people who always sit at home or office and spend their life. A big screen and standard key board is an advantage to perform with ease. A small screen with narrow key board is the disadvantage to perform with difficulty in typing and viewing. For ISCians Computer is the number one choice followed by Laptop.

I would say laptops are more convenient. Because laptops can be moved to anywhere with you and it is much portable as compared to a PC. Also laptops are much smaller in size and can be easily handled at a professional level. And for gaming also you can attach external keyboard and mouse, so it feels like a PC. Moreover it is found that the hardware damages and losses are less in laptops as compared to PCs. I also use a laptop. So, in my opinion laptops are superior in modern days.

Computer is better in today life becouse it is more cumfertuble for ordinary people......
When we buy Laptop it has high cost but now laptops are avalible in Rs:15000 but it is has no quality.... Now we get best laptops we want to pay more than Rs:30000. But it's is a big amound according to ordinary people. When we buy laptop at low cost, we also get a big kit of coplantes..... The we want to repair it ni every month when years passes we want to pay the double of laptops cost only for repairing....
But a good computer has the cost Rs:20000. It has no big complante up to 3 year...

Hi all,
Am my way to purchase a new laptop, bu tin between i had a doubt either to go for a new laptop or update the exesitng desktop machiene, then i decided to post it on the astahost where i can get the proper answer.
please all asta users judge which one to go for and why, their's pro and corns.
Please let me know.
If Desktop what should be the ideal configuration and same for the laptop also.
l I like a laptop because my current bedroom is really really small and using a Desktop PC would take up so much room, whereas with a laptop, I can slide it out of view when not in use. I've also got a wireless network with my family computer so I can sit out in the garden whilst on the internet. In otherwords I've got no cables to cart around or worry about.
On the downside, you miss mouses when you are trying to use the touch sensitive pad on a laptop to edit a picture in PhotoShop and although you can obviously install a mouse on a laptop, most times I would forget to bring it with me. It just depends on how much power you need and how flexible you want the transport of the computer to be. A PC with the same specifications as a laptop can be half the price for obvious reasons, and there is more room in a Desktop PC for expansion. But you can't carry a PC into your garden easily and you cant set it on your knee whilst in bed!

Laptops and computers have been used in different fields in different ways.It is impossible to conclude strictly which is best one.some have their own taste,some feel that laptop is the best conversely some feel that computer is the best.But before to adopt one either laptop or computer we should consider the features related to the computer and laptop and go for the conclusion which one is the best.
Here are the some of the conclusions related to them.
Comparison of features
1.portability:If we want to use this feature we should go for laptops because we can carry wherever you go.But,desktops do not have this kind of portability.
2.Space:When you want to keep more space for having a system better to go for desktops.If we ant to have less space for your system on your table go for laptops.
3.Power:If you want to save more power for your system better to go for desktops.Conversely,laptops use more power than desktops.
4.Maintainability: Laptops are very portable light weight and easy to handle.but,if any repair it is not easy replace like desktops.you can get a technical expert near your hone for repairing desktops.Bur,in case of laptops You need to have more pain for repairing them.

laptop and computer both re harmful to eyes and health. The better option is laptop because of its compatibility, portability, high quality,user friendly and advanced features are available in the laptop. The advantage of desktop is if there is any repair, the expenses will be less when it is compared with the laptop.

hello! himanshu.Although both laptops and computers (LCD or dekstop) have advantages and disadvantages yet I am in favor of laptops.
Here are the some of the advantages of laptops:
1.Very portable.
2.laptops have a much better display.
3.Light in weight.
4.Can be used anywhere due to its portability and small size.
5.No need for UPS ,battery back up let you work even when light goes off.
Advantages of Dekstops:
1.Cheap in cost.
2.It has a nice mouse to work on screen.
3.User keep a distance from it,so it is less harmful to eyes.
4.It's keyboard is quiet strong.
5.Repair cost is cheap.

Although working nature of both Laptop and Computer is very same their is a major difference about its handiness. Laptop is for the people who would like to work and move together while computer is for those who are static and like to work. Due to its compactness Laptop become very handy and movable while computer is really non movable you have to come to it for work while in laptop it can come anywhere with you and you can work with your choice of place. One another thing is that in laptop its give you a while without electricity while computers don't have this facility.

I will vote for desktop.
Advantage of desktop:
1. Mouse facility is suitable than laptop
2. External hardware can be easily attached
3. Screen size is better than laptop
4. Need not to worry about the problem in charger and battery
5. Price is less than laptop with for same configuration
6. Hard wares are user friendly than that of laptop
Though it has all of these advantages it has some disadvantages too. like-
1. We can not carry desktop according to our place requirements; desktop is not portable
2. We can not use desktop during power cut ( exception for inverter and generator use)
3. Generally RAM quantity is high with respect to hard disk in laptop where as in desktop RAM quantity is less than that of laptop
4. Have to include webcam externally
