well its a very good question and most of the people cant tell the difference between the both the most basic difference is
Length - resume is not more than one or two pages while Curriculum Vitae can be more than two pages
Description - Resume has to be in brief while on the other hand Curriculum Vitae is comprehensive
Thanks and Regards

Please go through the details below:
RESUME
In general the word Resume is a kind of summary which briefly explains your previous Job profile, academic and professional qualification, and other allied skills. Resume is widely used when one apply for a new job.
One pager resume is considered as a good and standard resume. You should always remember that a resume is prepared to highlight your knowledge, education, skills and ability with respect to the job profile in question for which you are applying.
You may use bullets to highlight your job objective, qualification etc. Start your resume with your qualifications for the job profile in question followed by your experience in the respective field along with other allied added qualifications like computer knowledge etc.
C.V CURRICULUM VITAE
Full form of CV is Curriculum Vitae, which is a Latin word and meaning "life span". Hence while preparing CV you have to mention details of your study and qualifications. A CV contains much detailed information about a candidate than a resume. Normally you can easily find 2 to 3 pages CV. A CV of 2-3 pages is considered fine.
However as per the requirement of industry and your previous job experience your CV can be a big one. While preparing CV you have to list out in details your previous Job experience, educational qualification, interests, achievements in chronological order. Usually a CV portrays your details information and qualities as compared to Resume which portrays specific information and qualities for any specific job profile.
I sincerely hope that the above information would be of some help.

Rest is more interestingly explained by the fellow member and they have given all the details there.

I repeat my response Both the words are more or less same meaning in their uses. But we can make some explanations to make them more clear.
Resume - means a summary. It comes from original french word.It is a summary of what one is till this time. It gives the prospective employer a gist of the employee candidate. Based on the resume the employer can gauge the suitability of the candidate for his job and also seek clarification in the interview on whatever points needed.Resume is mostly used in the case a person who is changing his job. So the focus is more on his previous job and the hands-on-job experience, his contributions to the previous organisation. It also mentions in brief about his personal and educational background, and then lists his suitability to the new job.
CV - is Curriculum Vitae. As it connotes, it is more about the curriculum undergone and hence is used in the case of freshers seking their first job. The focus here is on the degrees and examinations passed, any additional vocational or job -oriented course done and the achievements in the educational career.
In the old times both above terms were not used and the general term then was Bio-data..
