India should make the national game to Cricket from Hockey. Why not ?
we all know about the popularity of Cricket in India and the rarity of Hockey. So I felt an urge to put this topic for discussion.

Yes,it is true that Indias national game must be cricket.
The fans of cricket are more than the national game of India hockey.

Cricket can never become the national game just for the sake of popularity or more money. Hokey was the most admired game since the rule of the Britishers and is one of the finest sport. So it can never be replaced by cricket.

Amaresh thanks for becoming new member of this site and this topic was being discussed in the forum many a times. Most of the members do feel the importance of other sports especially Hockey. But the craze for cricket is very much and his shadowing other sports to the large extent because of money involved in this National game. The support for cricket is immense than other sports in India.

This will be not right. If peacock is dying then we should make crow our national bird. If national anthem of some other country is more popular we should adopt that one ? No,NO, No. We should try to improve the condition of Hockey inspite of replacing it with some other game. I too agree with the craze and passion of people for cricket is more but our own things can not be change because someone is selling something daily at our door step.

Dear Amaresh I do not know what is the procedure to choose the National game but if previously it has decided that Hockey is our national game we should respect that and about the popularity of Cricket it is just because of promotion of sponsors nothing else. Believe me cricket is specifically popular in most of Asian countries only but Football is more popular in all over world.

Hi Amaresh,
I would also like bring one more point to your notice that is Hockey have won us 8 Gold medals in Olympics During that span of time some where near 40 years we ruled the world of hockey. But when coming to cricket we can hardly use the words 'We have ruled the world of cricket'. So by observing the past Glory of hockey, I can proudly say 'Hockey is Our national game'.

I agree with Prakhar. Dear Amaresh, we should first remember that cricket is not born in India. It has of course pulled the attraction of the public and popularity. But we should also remember that India is the country which has own eight Olympic gold medals. First tell our Indian cricket team to bring eight world cups home. Then we can think of making it the national game.

Well it is not good to make the most populous game as our national game instead we have to stick with our present national game Hockey as the sport only has associated with lot of history and records with it. Well majority of sport loving people likes and enjoys watching cricket but it can't be sufficient for naming as the national game. Well I too agree with the fact that majority of sport lovers are loosing their interest towards Hockey and shifting to cricket but it is the duty of governments, sponsor-ores and media should come forward to re-initiate the popularity of our national game Hockey. By naming cricket as national game there is a danger of people forgetting all other sports including hockey.
There are some things that money just cannot buy, like manners, morals and intelligence.
