1.Solve for X, (3 marks)
(X) 1/3 –(X) 1/9=60
2.A person took part in a cycling race with many others. After pedaling for several minutes, he found that 1/5 th of the racers ahead of him and 5/6 th of the cyclist behind him together formed the total number of participants. How many people participated in the race?
Solution:
Let X be the total number of racers.
Then,
(X-1)/5 – 5(X-1)/6=X
X=31(Sure)
3.A big cube painted red on all the sides. It was cut into 27 smaller cubes by 6 straight lines. How many of the smaller cubes painted on all 3 sides, on 2 sides, on 1 side and no faces painted? (8 marks)
Solution:
Let n be the side of cube.
Sides of cube = 3 X 3 X 3
No faces painted=(n-2) X (n-2) X (n-2)
=(3-2) X (3-2) X (3-2) = 1(Sure)
1 side painted = 6 X (n-2) X (n-2)
=6(Sure)
2 sides painted = 12 X (n-2)
= 12(Sure)
All the 3 sides painted = 8(Sure)
4.There is a five-digit number. The fifth digit is one fourth of the third digit and one half of the fourth digit. Third digit is one half of the first digit. Second digit is 5 more than the fifth digit. What is that 5-digit number? (6 marks)
Solution:
Let the fifth digit be X, then fourth digit =2X and third digit = 4X.
And also Second digit is 5 more than the last digit.
Therefore 2nd digit = X + 5
Also first digit = 4X * 2
It is clear from the above statements that the fifth digit must be 1.
Therefore the number is 86421. (Sure)
5.A car is traveling in a uniform speed. The driver sees a milestone, which is a 2-digit number. After traveling for an
Hour the driver sees another milestone with the same digit in reverse order. After another hour the driver sees another milestone containing the same two-digit number with 0 in between them. What is the average speed of the car?
Solution:
Let the milestone be XY.
After an hour he saw a milestone numbered YX.
After another hour he saw a milestone numbered X0Y
The number is 16,61,106
(61-16) = (106-61) = 45
And the average speed is 45 km/hr. (Sure)
6.B and C initially speak English but when D joined Spanish they too took up Spanish. The only common language between A, B and E is French. The only common language between C and E is Italian. Three people speak Portuguese. Most common language is Spanish. One person knows all the 5 language, one person knows 4 languages, one person knows 3 languages, one person knows 2 languages and one person knows only one language. (8 marks)

A ->French, Spanish, Portuguese (Sure)
B ->English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian (Sure)
C -> English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese (Sure)
D ->Spanish (Sure)
E ->French, Italian (Sure)
7.Uncle Reuben and aunt Cynthia came to town to shop.Reuben bought a suit and hat for $15.Cynthia paid as much as for her hat as Reuben did for his suit.Then she spent the rest of her money for her dress.On the way to home Cynthia called Reubens attention to the fact that his hat cost $1 more than her dress.Then uncle said if we had divided our hat money differently such that we bought a different hats mine costing 1 and ½ times cost of yours then we would have spent the equal amount of money.
(i)How much the hat would cost in that case?
(ii)What is the total amount spent?

8.There was a match to be held.And 100 nations were to participate in that match.It was totally an elimination match,that is if a team loses a match it must be eliminated.Find out the total number of matches played to find out the grand winner?
Solution:

9.There were totally 100 men.85 are married.75 have T.V, 85 have radio,70 have A.C. How many men have T.V, radio, A.C and also married?
