Congratulations! This thread has been selected as the Thread of the Week of 9th-15th September, 2012
Thank God that finally we have enough rains and the situation of drought has passed without any much problem in different states. But this is not at all end the less water solution in our country. Study show that by the year 2020, India will become water stressed country and for that we have to be ready to use water properly in our daily life.
Before blaming to government we should think of ourselves first that whether we use water properly for our daily use. This is the very important area where government people will not come and check every house. Do you know unknowingly how much water get wasted just because of our ignorance? You may never know but if you do not lock your house tap properly the every drop of water get wasted. Like that there are many houses where taps are not properly lock or working from where so much of water gets wasted in daily basis.
If we use water properly while washing cloth or taking bath we can save much of water. Instead of fountain please use bucket to take bath. While doing so do not keep the tap open and save water flowing unnecessary. Small thing but can make a big impact.
This very small thing but we have to care it now onwards. Please pass this message to everyone so that at least we can stop wasting water from our own home.

The only one element on the earth is water (H2o) the ultimate savior of the life of both plants and animals. The freely available or water @ price is neglecting to save further. The will be wasting b the people because now it seems to be more than enough supply. The average consumption water available in India is 5177 cu.m.for 36.1 crore population in 1951. Now the average consumption water is 1545 cu.m. for 121 crore population in India. It will become worsen by 2025. So we have greater responsibility to save and store for future.

I have seen many time that street taps are running and no one is there to lock the tap or sometime the tap itself dosen't have the locking system.

I really don't understand that we Indians get so uch water; actually more then required but still we waste like it is some dirty water that is useless.
There are many areas which actually use dirty water for their daily use; as they don't have the access to clean water, but still we feel it is ok to waste as much as water we like; it is really bad.
We should indeed try to save water as much as we can; then only it will be used by the people who is craving for it.

But this is not the end of water problem. Now onus is on us to use this water prudently and stop wastage of water. The problem of availability of water still persists in various parts of the country and it is high time to educate people regarding how to conserve water and how to use the water in appropriate way.
Our ignorance towards best use of available water is the main cause of water problem. There are lots of methods of saving water, which are also available on internet. We should learn those methods and implement them in our day to day use of water. Someone has rightly said that "water is life" so save it.

Today the time has come when we are actually purchasing drinking water as a part of our monthly ration.
Why and who is responsible for the same?
Very easy to answer, it's not we! If it's not we then who?
We have to find out the causes (which one way or the other we know) and take up vital steps to triumph over this struggle. We all know water is scarce; we need to use it in the best possible way. Try to start from our own places at home, office etc. Every drop of water counts, save it before it's finished.

Realizing this grave situation many colonies in Hyderabad have started digging big rain harvesting pits to save the rain waters going into the drain. I think such efforts must be appreciated as future seems to be bleak. With no power , no water the future of the people is at stake.

It is very important that each of us start saving water rather than just waiting for rains to satisfy our water requirements. Every unutilized drop of water is water saved for the future. So, it is important we learn different ways to save water. Some of the easy water saving techniques are: -Instead of standing under the shower, take bath from bucket water (as already mentioned by Jitendra). -Do not flush unnecessarily in toilets as lot of water is wasted in one single flush. -If you face water cuts in your home even during rainy season, then, try to store water by directly placing buckets outside when it rains. This way you will save tap water for future use. -Close all water taps tightly. -Water plants at your home and in your surroundings regularly. Always remember, plants and trees will cause more rain. -People living in cities should start doing rain water harvesting. This will save a lot of water and will solve the frequent water cut problems.

The current status of water availability of water is a cause to be cured. in rajasthan, maharastra, gujrat where underground water is not easily available people struggles in line for water. If we are responsible then we should be economical while using water.

I am from Tamil Nadu and I think here the problem is very much worse. We are having very few rivers in our state and the states from where the water was dropping down for us have stopped giving water to us. We are a big state with too much dependence on agriculture that indeed needs water and we are definitely in need of more water. The rain that flew before some days was too small and hope there are more such rains that can facilitate the farmers and the population of our nation.

Hi, You are all discussing about the scarcity of water and am telling about abundant water. Its a big irony right!!!Don't know, by looking at your post these lines popped out of my mind.Read somewhere in the schooling.
Its really a damn issue.Mother earth has above 70% of its land covered with water. But most of in the oceans.Due to our unwise practices(luxury lifestyles,vehicles,modernization...)our earth is getting warmer.Polar ice is melting. This may lead to the truthfulness of the above mentioned line. As many of the members wrote to save water, first step is to save water at our home.We should spread awareness in the public.Things must be taught at the schooling too."Get green" policy should be adopted.Plantations have to be improved. Otherwise the flight of villagers to cities due to scarcity of water for irrigation worsens. And unbeatable population rate.So many. Its a cumulative effect. We should put our every wisely at this stage.
