We have heard about the saying "Pen is mightier than sword". This was created when the forces used to fight with swords. Later, when the guns were introduced, the terminology did not change and we continued to use the same word sword. Now for a change I made it as "Pen is mightier than gun". Also we can say that "Word is mightier than sword". This is with a good rhyming sense.
What is Sun's mini contest !
Members are to write a good paragraph (not less than 140 words and not exceeding 150 good words) explaining the proverb "Pen is mightier than gun" in good English without any grammar and spelling mistake.
The best writer will get Sun's gift. Please try your best to improve our writing skill.

Pen is mightier than gun
Yes, the words from a pen is stronger and powerful than the bullets from a gun. During ancient times there were lot of authors who have inspired and corrected people through their writings. Anyone who is trained to use a gun can operate it but mere training can't bring out strong and inspiring words from someone's pen. Writing is an inborn talent and has the power to pass through the readers mind and to influence the person. Newspapers and other printed media are still gaining importance among us because of the words that they produce. A person who has taken up pen has his weapon will not have a guilty feeling in his mind of killing people or will not be put to jail (except in certain cases), but a person who takes gun has his weapon will lead a tensed life as he never knows when he will be the prey for someone's gun or when he will be hanged to death. We still remember those who used pen as their weapon and not the ones who took up gun. Pen prevents blood shed whereas gun creates blood sheds.

Hi Sun,
I liked your interpretation of the old saying to a modified version like "Pen is mightier than the gun". My attempt at explaining it's meaning is as under:
Pen is used to write words, poetry, articles, stories, news, motivational quotes, innovative theories, etc. In short, a pen can be used to reach out to the masses, influence them, inspire them to achieve greater things, make them laugh / cry, make them dream, create an imaginative world for them, give them reality check, etc. It can benefit millions of people if used creatively and constructively. It is like a double-edged sword, which if used wisely and judiciously, will create a big positive impact on people. On the other hand, a gun can never be used creatively or constructively and at best it can be used for self protection. It is a weapon of destruction and can never create a positive impact that a pen can.
A pen can bring the world together and create heaven on earth, whereas a gun can cause havoc and create hell on earth. Just because of it's reach, a pen is and will always be mightier than the gun.

Pen is mightier that gun because pen can express but gun can only react. Pen has the power to change the world with good words. But gun has the ability to destroy the mankind and his belongings too. Pen has the following of great fans of intellectuals, but gun has the following of cowards and who sees no future in them or in others. Those who take on the guns are mindless, ruthless and they do not have any soft corner for the good people and their deed for the world. But Pen has the ability to appreciate the good works of the great people and can even get them the wanted recognition in the International fora too.

"Pen is Mightier than Gun" because, by using pen we can express our felling by writing on page and the the power of pen is bigger than any kind of arm beside the Gun only used to finish the enemy's and it is not impact of love, its the impact of hates and its harmful to the human community.we can say the pen is impact of love, it does not kill the human but put impact more then the Gun on human being.In the past days the statement pen is mightier then Gun was the pen is mightier then Sword. From all these points we can say that the Pen is mightier than Gun.

Pen has a quality through which one can express his views across the world. Pen brings the new beginning of world where as gun brings death. Pen is a symbol of self-respect and motivation. Impression of gun is moment where as pen has forever impression. We have seen our father of nation Mahatma Gandhi never use violence but achieve his goal of independence. Gun can kill the person but never bring any change in human mind but pen possess this power. In my view pen is used to show our intellectualism and gun shows that we have a fear from others. Also, Gun can kill the human but never kill his intellectuality. In case of pen, it increases the perfectness of human thinking. So, conclusion brings an idea that pen is always act as right tool to motivate, win and share one's feeling and gun destroys all.

"pen is mightier then gun" , yes really pen is called also a weapon but pen is that weapon so that we cant do harm to any body or any thing, pen is like good weapon we can change hole world by writing. but gun is also a weapon, this is used for only doing bad one like killing .pen is a thing we can express our own views and thoughts by small tip we do lots of changes in society also.
In India so many great writers are there,they do best work,best things by using small pen only not by gun.

Here is my entry for this mini contest "Pen is mightier than sword".
Long years back, Emperors (or people) used to fight with their enemy Emperors by their swords. They used swords as the best option to solve their problems. But, then the pen was invented. Emperors started writing letters by pen, to solve their problems to avoid fight and used it as the best way to communicate with each other. Pen can change someone’s mind and make he feel good, but sword can’t do that. Pen was the best option Emperors had, to solve their differences and start a new friendship. So, Pen is the better option than sword, as it can solve many problems in this world and bring harmony between people. As they say, “A war of words is always better than a war of blood”.
Pen can bring colors in our life, but Sword can only bring destruction of lives.

Lovers use pen to write letters but gun creates hatred. No gun has the power of a pen. Pen has twin objectives – to create love and to destroy. It all depends up on how we use pen. Only one who knows to use pen properly can use it for good. But gun has one objective and that is to kill and to destroy. Pen comes in different colors and it spreads the colors of love in every mind but gun has only one color, the bleeding red color. Pen is cheap and easily available, hence it is the tool of poor man whereas gun is expensive and is been used by top people. Using pen is legal but not all can use gun.

Pen is mightier than Gun is really a timely change that we need. I like the new term gun used in place of sword. Now I am giving my explanation below
The statement is used to mean that the success or victory gained by sword or gun is insignificant in comparison to the success gained by pen. The victory of guns remains for a limited period among people. Alexander Pope, Napolean, Hitler were the examples who failed to make their works alive through swords forever. Only because of the pen, the work done by them is still alive or remembered by the people. Moreover, William Shakespeare, also believes on the writing, which can only immortalize us among the people forever. Pen is the only weapon through which man can make a world of peace and prosperity. With the help of pen, Mahatma Gandhi, Shakespeare, Nehru have become successful in creating a great revolution for the betterment of the entire humanity. On the contrary, a gun can do nothing except creating destruction, hatred and the sense of insecurity among the innocent people.

It has been seen in the past too that people are more influenced by the thoughts of the people. Using terror weapons like swords and gun may force people to follow them, but this cannot earn the respect to them. The people who want to rule on others by using such weapons survive for short time. And when their fear vanishes from people's mind, they come to the real world. But, those people, who used power of speech to motivate people by their words, are respected today also. People remember their wordings forever. People like Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, and Abraham Lincoln became great leaders by using the power of speech only. So, the history has been the proof that pen has been always been mightier than the sword/gun. Therefore, the tool called pen should be utilized carefully because it has power to create and destroy the society.

I am giving below my opinion and it may be considered it as an entry to the contest also. First I would felt that being an on-liner and diamond member in ISC, the title could be like this"Mouse or keyboard is mightier than gun" For rhyming you have given as pen. Because,above has taken place of pen for quite a few years. Ok. Now Come for the contest.
The old saying is best explained in the Tamil Popular Tirukural, that, crashes made by fire will be cured than the words. For a new saying, I can quote your own example of getting anger on a forum when the responses are lack. Since it is through online, you have given (typed) it in words. Also the recent incidents, when PM is criticized by media is also best examples of your saying. Also the impact of media in giving any happenings have a result on the immediate election. So I wanted to give only the current trends and happenings to support by pen which may not be possible or even imagine to create by gun. Thus definitely pen(words or whatever may be the form) is stronger or mighetier than gun.

I want to remind the author that the proverb is " A pen is mightier than a sword" not a gun.
Here are my opinions about the proverb.
Since the pen is used to espress idesas and the sword is used to impose one's will by superior violence, the statement really means that ideas have more influence than violence. Since violence is always used for a purpose, there is a some idea behind violence. What matters is the kind of idea in the service of which violence is used. The sword can only destroy, but the pein-the ideas expressed by the pen-can also build. The pen is the vehicel of thought and ideas have helped man to reise over purely savage conditions. They have built up free institutions and democracy. Thought enables man to voyage through the infinite the philosophy to unlock the secrets of the universe in science, to contemplate the universe, to create beauty and to commune with God

It is pertinent to mention that it is paramount to read the author's post before making any responses in any thread. I have clearly said that the old saying is "Pen is mightier than sword" and that has been changed to read as "Pen is mightier than Gun" to match with the present day world.

Pen is mightier than gun
I too support this statement as a pen can be used to save and destroy a a life whereas gun can only be used to destroy a life. Written words are more powerful than any weapon. We use pen to sign a contract or an agreement but a gun is used to destroy contract or an agreement. By reading the lines created by a pen, tears flow from ones eyes but the marks caused by gun creates tears and blood sheds too. We all are taught to use a pen from childhood and not a gun even if we are grown up, this proves the importance of a pen.

Earlier people thought that violence could influence others to change their opinions. But as the years progressed, they realized that violence has no power to influence. It can only force others for their approval, but it cannot influence them to change their beliefs. On the other hand, written words have the ability to change the view of the people without using any violent measures. The gun can only create a temporary impact, but the pen can make a permanent impact. Gun can only destroy the society, but the pen can build a society or destroy a society. If used in a correct way pen is always mightier than gun, as the pen can impart positive energy in the readers but the gun will only increase the negativity in the society. The pen can force the Government to take action when it is necessary, but the gun cannot do so.

The adage 'the pen is mightier than the sword' conveys that our thoughts and ideas have far more influence on people than acts of violence or coercion. Eminent people have inspired others by their words of wisdom, led people to think and thus shaped the course of civilization. A sword or gun represents aggression and any form violence induces fear and fear destroys individuality. So given a choice between free thinking and blind following, any person would choose to think and speak fearlessly. Obviously, the pen, which symbolizes our thoughts and their expression, is more effective than threats. In the present age of social networking, a person with a substantial fan following can, with a few keystrokes, sway opinions, vote a government to power or contribute to its fall. So maybe we can coin a parody of the adage as 'the keyboard is mightier than the gun'!

In almost all the fields in the modern era, the pen is ruling the swords. The blue color members are controlled by the white collar people even now whose job is to just sit and get the work done by Blue collar people. In almost all the organizations mind is given the importance and is placed at the top while physical work is placed in the bottom at factory level and so are the salary provided to them. Even the organs like Hand and leg that are essential are controlled by the brain of the person and this shows who is supreme and who controls whom. It is not the pen or sword that matters and it is brain or strength that matters here. These are the evident examples that shows that Brain is superior to sword and hence the statement Pen is mightier than sword is Absolutely right.
