A request to all the members. |

I have observed that some of the members are writing their names in an incorrect format. Some members are writing all letters of their names in uppercase and some members are writing all letters of their names in lowercase. For example SAT KOCH and sat Koch. In my opinion both of these formats are wrong. The correct format is to use the first letter in uppercase (as a capital letter) and the rest of the letters in lowercase regardless of the fact that whether it is a first name/a middle name/a surname. So, the correct format for writing a name is Sat Koch with a capital S and a capital K.
I had made a similar request few days back but some of the members did not correct their names and continue to write their names improperly. Some of the members may have not seen my older request. So, I have taken up this task to send personal messages to all those who continue to write their names in an incorrect format. This is not an attempt to belittle anybody or a fault finding exercise but is an attempt to make you all aware of the correct format of writing a name. So, please, I request to all the members who receive such a P.M. to take it in a positive manner, write their names in the correct format and improve your English writing skills.
I apologize for any unintentional hurt caused by this request, in advance, if any.
Regards.

In fact, the practice of using any name written in any manner or format has come into vogue due to a very liberal policy of the India Study Channel to allow the names in whatever way they are written by the members. Some of these names are very funny and amusing when we address the members by such names. So it is up to the members themselves to realize whether they want to continue with such funny and meaningless names or they want to use their real names as given to them by their parents. It seems very embarrassing sometimes when we have to address the members with the names which they have assumed just to become the members of the ISC. I too feel that it is not a good practice to name oneself the way some of the members have done it. Thanks for coming out with a very good suggestion and let us hope if the wise members act upon your suggestion. I also use all capitals now in my name. How can it be changed now if I want to use 'Sukhdev Singh' in place of 'SUKHDEV SINGH'?

Sir, you are mixing up two different issues, in my opinion. My point is regarding correct format for writing a name, according to rules of English grammar and what you are trying to point out is an issue connected to ISC. Well, if the Administrators think that everybody should use his/her real name in all the posts, then let them come out with such a guideline /directive. I hope everybody will happily comply with it.
Well, if you are really interested to change your name to 'Sukhdev Singh', then you can do that by editing your profile.
Regards.

Not many people venture to point out such mistakes which members commit and it is quite common. Since it is Channel basically for students, it must be used as a learning platform. We must welcome any such suggestions and comments from members for improving self and the Channel.

But Now I am in a confusing way, that when we fill up the forms they strictly quoted to write the name in capital letters only. This registration also followed by the form filling, then why it makes a wrong way of writing. How it becomes a informal writing. When we write our names in lower case only, first to last names like 'rajani', it can be say that it is a wrong way of writing. All upper case is also allowed in my view. If any wrong suggestion, when I made, please try to give details of formal writing.

Well, while filling up forms some times it is mandatory for us to write the important information like a name or an address etc. in capital letters because sometimes the forms are scanned and uplaoded on a computer and a software then reads the information and saves the information on a website or a data base. Moreover, if we write our name in lowercase (that is small letters) then the person/compuetr who is reading it may not be able to decipher it correctly as everybody has a distinct way of writing in lowercase.
In addition to that, writing in all capitals amounts to shouting in Internet language/terminology

Dear friends, you need to correct the format of your name in the header too, where it is in an incorrect format. You can correct it by editing your profile.
Regards.
| #250108 Author: Gypsy Member Level: Platinum Member Rank: 9 Date: 29/Oct/2011 Rating: Points: 1 | Hello All,
I would like to thank you all for your willingness to write your name in a grammatically correct format and for the promptness shown in doing so. But, some of the members who participated in this thread have not done it in the header. I request those who have not done it in the header to do so, which can be done by editing your profile.
I further request the members to spread the message by sending personal messages when they come across such a mistake, as I am not allowed to send more than 9 messages per day.
Regards.
