Brihadeeswarar Temple in Tanjavur

The Brihadeeswarar Temple in Thanjavur was constructed in 1010 AD, during the reign of Raja Raja Chola. The temple is dedicated to Shiva and is known for its colossal size and fine architecture. The temple complex consists of many structures, enclosed within a huge area. Seen here is the main entrance with a ‘Gopuram’ in the background. The Goparum stands 30 meters high. The wall beside the gate is adorned with over a hundred Nandi statues, placed at equi-distance.
