As Thiruvananthapuram is the capital city of the state of Kerala, the legislative assembly and the Secretariat are located here. The city is also the headquarters of the district. The only foreign council in the city is the Consulate of Maldives since it is located close by at the Arabian sea. The Railway station and the airport are situated 8 kilometers apart. It is well connected to all the major cities by Rail, Road and by Air.
Thiruvananthapuram international airport has many Airlines operating direct flights from the Gulf regions, Singapore , Maldives and Srilanka. Thiruvananthapuram is the gateway to tourists coming for enjoyment and health care in to Kerala. Kerala is fast becoming the most wanted tourist spot in the whole of India. Medical tourism is also improving very fast in this city, lots of resorts are coming up in the Kovalam amd Varkala beaches with Ayurveda treatment and spa facilities. This brings in lots of tourists for health based treatments into kerala. Trivandrum is the cheapest and the closest option for the Srilanka and Maldives Travellers.
Trivandrum has a rich cultural background, with the earlier ruling family taking an active interest in development of arts and culture. Trivandrum has produced several great artists, the most famous ones being Maharaja Swathi Thirunaal from the ruling family, Irayummen Thampi and Raja Ravi Varma another one from the Ruling family.Maharaja swathi Thirunal is a great composer and has played a vital role in the development of carnatic music in his ruling days. There is a music college in his name in the city. Raja ravi Varma was an illustrious painter and a well known artist with global recognition. His artisitic contributions to the Arts are very substantial and most of his paintings are still preserved at the Sree Chithra Art Gallery.
Trivandrum has numerous libraries, the prominent ones being the Trivandrum Public Library, the University Library, Trivandrum Children's Library, Manuscripts Library and the Centre for Development Studies Library. The British Council Library is located very near to the Government Secretariat adjacent to the YMCA Hostel in the city.
Trivandrum being the capital of the India’s most literate and socially developed state of Kerala, is also placed in a strategically very important place, i.e. in the southernmost point of India. It is the headquarters of the southern air Command of the Indian Air Force. Not only that, it is near the east west shipping axis and the International shipping route.

Thiruvananthapuram is the Capital City of God's Own country Kerala. It is a calm and quite city with lot of government offices and educational institution. People come here either as Goverment employees or for Educational purposes.Referred to by Mahatma Gandhi as the "Evergreen city of India", the city is characterized by its undulating terrain of low coastal hills and busy commercial alleys.
Thiruvananthapuram is an ancient city with trading traditions dating 1000 BC onwards. Thiruvananthapuram saw rise and fall of many great emperors like Marthanda varma , Swathi Thirunal etc etc
The city always had a great instinct into cultural aspects. Many muscians , political King makers , Doctors , Engineers , Lawyers etc etc took their birth in the womb of Trivandrum.
A major milestone in the city's recent history was the establishment of Techno park—India's first IT park—in 1995. It is now growing big and big. Trivandrum has also got an opportunity to elect Shashi Tharoor as new MP.
