    Sikar district is a pleasant area in Rajasthan. It is near by jhnujhunu and churu district and far away from jaipur, almost 130 kelometer.

    About Sikar District of Rajasthan


    The Sikar district is located in the north-eastern part of the state of Rajasthan of India. The district is bounded by Jhunjhunu District on the north, by Churu district in the north-west,by Nagaur District in the south-west, by the District Jaipur in the south-east and by Mahendragarh district of Haryana as well on its north-east.
    Sikar district has an area of 7742 sq kms and a popu;ation of 2,287,788 with a literacy rate of 71.19% higher than the national average. It is believed that "Veer Bhan Ka Bas" was its old name.

    Maximum temperature is said to be 48 degrees and the minimum is 1 degree centigrade.The Summer is very hot with scanty rainfall of about 45cms. The district has a chilly winter season with a minimum of 1 degree centigrade and therefore the best season to visit Sikar will be after the south west monsoon, just before th winter season starts to the start of the summer season in March.

    History of the Sikar Estate / Thikana

    Sikar is an historical city and the Sikar town is its administrative headquarters.
    Sikar is a part of the Shekawati region and the biggest Thikana of the state of Jaipur.with the capital town as Sikar.Sikar Estate is surrounded on all sides by high walls and have 7 gates. Daulat Singh started building this fort in the village gifted by Raja of Khandela Bhahadur Singh to mitigate the feelings on account of Daulat Singh's father Jaswant Singh. Even though Daulat singh laid the foundation for the fort it was his son Shiv Singh who built a magnificient fort and was also known as the most prominent and well known Rao Raja of Sikar.Lateron the village became the famous Sikar town.

    Administration set up of the Sikar District


    District collector is the head of the District and one additional Magistrate helps him discharge the administrative duties. There are 6 sub divisions (SDO's) with officers who work to provide administrative support. The 6 sub divisions are Sikar, Fatehpur, Laxmangarh, Dantaramgarh, Shri Madhopur and Neem Ka Thana.
    Under these SDO's there are 6 tehsils, one additional tehsil and 2 sub tehsils are there, th additional tehsil being Ramgarh of the Shekawati Region and the sub tehsilds being Khandela and Palsana.
    Patwari serves in the Patwari Mandals under each Tehsil and looks after the landlords and farmers at the village level.

    Education in the Sikar district


    There are many schools and colleges which have come up in the Sikar district providing arts, sciences and commerce education, Private colleges and institutions have also opened up in the district making the Sikar district a hub for Education in the state of Rajasthan.
    Sikar has 299 higher secondary schools, 843 middle schools and 1695 primary schools and some well known and reputed schools like Bhartiya Public School, Vidyabharti School, Islamia School, Nav Prerna School are among them. The residential schools here have students coming from different states of India.

    Places to visit in the Sikar District


    Khatu Shyamji is a small village, which is located at about 65 kilometers from Sikar, known for the Shyamji temple built with white marbles.There are ponds in which the Devotees throng to have holy dips. This temple is traced back to the medieval days of Mahabharat. It is said that the Prince Barbareek son of Bhim one of the Pandava Brothers and the Naga Kanya was endowed three Arrows by Lord Shiva and a bow from the Lord Agni Deva.

    Ganeshwar and Baleswar are located at about 15 kilometers away from the Neem Ka Thana and about 80 kilometers from Sikar Town. Ganeshwar is a pilgrimage cum a beautiful picnic spot. There is a hot sulphur spring there which is believed to cure all types of skin diseases. Baleswar is located closeby which also has ponds and an old Shiv Temple amidst the Aravalli Ranges. Excavations in this area have revealed the remains of the 4000 year old civilization.

    Jeenmata is located at about 30 kilometers from the Sikar town. There is an ancient temple dedicated to Jeen mata which was built a thousand years ago.Lakhs of devotees throng to the area during the Chaitra and Ashwin Months and also during Navaratri fairs. Dharamshalas are built here to accomodate these devotees. This temple is nestled amongst the famous Aravalli hills and have idyllic and beautiful surroundings. This is a naturally calm and serene location where you can see lots of flora and fauna.

    Harshnath is another Shiva temple which is just 14 kilometers away from the town of Sikar. This temple sees to belong to 18th century. There is a 10 century old ruins of the Shiva temple which is located on the high hills of Aravalli. The temple has a beautiful architectural display.

    Location of the Sikar District


    Sikar District is located on the National highway 11 running from Bikaner to Agra, that is about 116 kilometers from jaipur, 320 kilometers from Jodhpur, 240 kms from Bikaner and 310 kilometers from Delhi.

    How to Reach Sikar District


    The nearest airport to the Sikar district is Jaipur international airport which is aboit 116 kilometers away .

    Sikar is well connected by Rail with Jaipur, Delhi, Bikaner, churu and also with almost all the major cities and towns of Rajasthan and India as well.

    Since the National Hoghway No 11 runs through the district, it is well connected with all the cities in and around Rajasthan as well.
