The Rajputs are remembered for their bravery. Not only men but also many famous Rajput women have ruled from this city. Rani Padmini, who sacrificed herself in her husband's pyre is still spoken about today. This city is a fort city and we can see the fort still on the top of the hill. The fort have become an important tourist place and there are many temples too in that fort and city. The fort in Chittorgarh is the best known fort. Inside the fort is the temple for Khumba Shyam which was worshipped by Meera. There is also a temple for Meera inside that temple. Just the way it was known for its bravery, this city is now known for the Marble Industry, Cement Plants.
Main tourist attraction of Chittorgarh
Fort: The fort on the hilltop is the main tourist attraction. The fort have lots of history stored in it. The fort is on the 180 mtr high hill and it covers 700 acres and was build by Mauryans and the fort was improved by the Mewars. The fort is also known as water fort. There were ponds, wells and step wells. Though there were almost 84 of them previously now there are only 22 of them. All the reservoirs together can store upto 4 billion litres of water.
Vijay Stambh: This is one big tower of around 157 feet tall, built by Mohamed Khilji. The tower is 9 storeyed building and all around the steps there are Hindu deity's sculptures. There are balconies all around which give wonderful view of the whole town and when the tower is illuminated, it gives an enchanting view.
Kirti Stambh: This tower is dedicated to Teerthankar and a narrow stair goes upto 7 stories. The whole tower is 22 metres high.
Gaumukh Reservoir: A tank filled with spring water at the edge of the cliff and the name gives the meaning Cow Mouth.
Rana Kumbha Palace: This is a very historical and archeologically interesting palace. This is one of the biggest monument inside the fort of Chittor. The palace have underground cellars where Rani Padmini is said to have committed Jauhar.
Padmini Palace: Overlooking a pool, this palace was once the abode of Rani Padmini
Meera Temple: The temple is built by Maharana Kumbha in 1449. There is a temple for Lord Krishna and this is the temple worshipped by Meera
Kalika Mata Temple: A temple built for goddess Kali in the 8th Century.
Jain Temple: The largest of the 6 Jain temples in the fort of Chittor is the Bagwan Adinata temple.
Seven Gates of the Fort: To enter the fort of Chittorgarh, there are 7 gates and each have a different name, design and the size of the gates are also different.
