    Location


    Ajmer is a spectacular city, an oasis like but surrounded by the Aravalli Ranges, in the district Ajmer of the state of Rajasthan. Ajaymeru was its earlier name and was once ruled by Pritviraj Chauhan. Ajmer - Merwara was a British Province in their days till the independence , then it went on to become Ajmer state, Later it merged with Rajasthan and India to become one district in that state.
    Ajmer is located at 26° 27, N. lat. and 74° 44, on the lower slopes of Taragarh Hill, in the Aravalli Ranges and is almost at the centre of the state. A large artificial lake, called Anasagar, is in the north part of the city, adorned with Baradari, a marble structure. Most of the developments are taking place in the outskirts of the city in the recent times. Hazrat Khwaja Mu'inuddin Chishti , a Sufi Saint has a temple located there in Ajmer.

    How to Reach Ajmer


    Ajmer Railway station is an important junction in the Delhi- Ahmedabad section of the Western Railways. Most of the trains passing through the station stop here. Ajmer has super fast, express and mail trains running to Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Jodhpur and through these connected to the Southern parts of India as well.
    Indian Railways runs two of its best and superfast trains, Pink City Express and Shatabdi Express connect Ajmer to Delhi and Jaipur.
    The closest Airport is Swai Mansingh International Airport at Jaipur which is just 135 km away.
    The city is also well connected by transport, as there is a number of bus services are run from Ajmer to the cities in rest of India

    Tourist Spots


    Ajmer is a popular pilgrimage centre for the Hindus as well as Muslims,Pushkar and Dargah Sheriff equally draws tourists and the pilgrims to the place.
    Pushkar is a famous tourist destination and is just 23 kms from Ajmer. Pushkar lake and the 14th century Brahma temple dedicated to Lord Brahma, one of the Trinity Hindu Gods, known the God for Creation.
    The Dargah Sheriff of the Hazrat Khwaja Mu'inuddin Chishti is at the foot of the Taragarh Hill and has many white marble buildings arranged around two courtyards and a massive gate donated by the Nizam of Hyderabad and a mosque donated by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, the Akbari Mosque.
    The fort of Ajmer, called the Taragarh Fort, was the seat of the Chauhan rulers, is claimed to the first hill fort of India and it is one of the oldest hill forts of the world.
    Old Rangji Temple, of the deity Lord Rangji is supposed to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This temple, built by Seth Puran Mal Ganeriwal of Hyderabad, is a mixture of Dravidian culture, Rajpu style and Mughal style of architecture and so has an unique style. There is a new Rangji temple which is completely of the South Indian style with a Raja gopuram and all.
    Nasiyan Temple , also called as Red temple, is a Jain temple which has an adjacent hall displaying a series of large gold plated wooden figures depicting legends from Jain mythology. This place is also called by the name Soni Ji Ki Nasiyan , is decorated and adorned with glass mosaic, precious stones, gold and silver work.
    Taragarh Fort is a giant on with 6 main gates and also has Miran Saheb ki Dargha who was the governor of the fort who scarificed his life for saving the fort. The fort has the best view of the Aravalli ranges and has archeological and historical importance.

    Education


    Mayo College one of the oldest Public Schools in the country, was opened in October 1875, with Sir Oliver St. John as the first Principal and Maharaja Mangal Singh of Alwar, as the only Student. This college was named after Lord Mayo, the then Viceroy and Governor, who expressed a wish to open an educational institution in the city of Ajmer then.

    Under the auspices of Bhagwant Education Foundation, the Ajmer institute of Technology was established in Ajmer and is situated at Pushkar bypass close to Janana Hospital and is about 5 Kms from Maharshi Dyanand University.
    The institute is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and is affliated to Rajasthan Technical University – Kota, University of Rajasthan - Jaipur and MDS University – Ajmer. to know more about the courses and details about this university just visit here

    Climate


    Climate in Ajmer District is pretty hot in summers but gets greener with first rain, as all its small mountains become green. In winters, temperature is very cold.
