Dharmapuri district, which came into existence from 02.10.1965. Tiruvannamalai and Villupuram Districts on the east side of Dharmapuri and Salem is in South side, Krishnagiri district in North side and west side, the Kaveri river is running. The district is located in North western side of TamilNadu.
The total geographical area of Dharmapuri District is 4497.77 Sq Kms, it means 3.46% of Tamil Nadu state. It is the first district which have largest area in TamilNadu state. As per 2001 census, this district have 12,86,552 people in the district.
History :
The city and this area are ruled by Kongu Nadu Kings, Rashtrakutas, Cholas and the Pandyas in different periods. After that, Tippu sultan and British took the rights on this area. During British time, this city is one of the Taluk in Salem district.
Tourist Places :
The Kaveri river is entering into TamilNadu through this district only. So we have lot of falls and some calm places in this district wherever Kaveri river is running in the district. The important and famous falls is "Hogenakal water falls".
This falls located at the border of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu/ The Hogenakal Falls is situated at a distance of around 46 kms away from Dharmapuri. The falls is so much important being the point where the River Kaveri enters Tamil Nadu. Few times, there was fighting happened between Karnataka and TamilNadu because of the reason, "this falls belongs to whom?".
Climate and Business :
Its generally, warm climate only in this district. The minimum temperature will be 18'c and maximum will be 32'c. The district receives an average annual rainfall of 895.56 mm. The important business in the districts are Granite, Vegetables, Fruites, and Belts. Mango is one of the main export from this district.
Transportation :
This city is well connected with Bus and Train. By Bus is well connected with nearest city and chennai. By Train, it well connected from Mysore, Madurai and few more major city of TamilNadu.
