Erode is one of the district in Tamilnadu which is locate at north side of TamilNadu. Till 1979, this district merged with Coimbatore. After that, this district was separate and called as "Periyar district". This district is surrounded by 7 district in TamilNadu and 2 Karnataka district. As of 2001 census, the total population in this district is, 25,81,500. The total area of this district is, 7,649 km2. The sex ratio of this district is Male 51% and Female 49%.
This district have 8 Assembly constituency and 3 Parliment constituency. The Major cities in this district are, Erode, Gobichettipalayam, Bhavani, Perundurai, Sathyamangalam. There are four major rivers are running in this district. The r ivers are, Kaveri, Bhavani, Amaravati and Noyyal. Even though, the district have rivers and mountains, most of the places in this district will be dry and heat. The major city of the district are: Erode, Gobichettipalayam, Bhavani, Perundurai and Sathyamangalam.
Business :
Erode district is famous for Turmeric powder and Butter. White silk, Plantain and Coconut production are produced from Gobichettipalayam. This district is in upper hand in Texttile productions. Apart from this, Agriculture also considered in the economy.
Tourist Places:
There are few famous temples are available in the district. The temples are, * Bhavani Sangameshwarar Temple * Bannari Amman Temple
Apart from religious kind of tourist places, this district have Dams, Periyar Memorial , Birds Sanctuary at Vellode and Few forest places available.
Transport:
This district well connected with Road from nearest major city. Also it connected from Chennai (Capital of TamilNadu state) by Train and bus.
Periyar was born in this district. He is unforgettable in TamilNadu history and politics.
