The name of this district was derived from the Kamba hills, as history tells. Khammam was under Warangal District till the year 1953. It was a Taluk Administration. Then later on five different taluks Khammam, Madhira, Yellandu, Burgampu and Paloncha of Warangal district were separated and formed a dictrict with Khammam as its head quarters. After that even other two divisions Bhadrachalam and Nuguru Venkatapuram are combined together to form the Khammam district. Later on the district is divided into 46 mandals under four revenue divisions - Khammam, Kothagudem, Paloncha and Badhrachalam. This is the latest division according to the year 1985.
